💫Some of our Sailing Into Wellness team spent time in Belgium last week connecting and building a strong community at GATE Belgium 2026.

😊Bringing together Adventure Therapy practitioners, researchers and organisations involved in Adventure Therapy across Europe, it was an opportunity to exchange ideas, share practices and explore new developments in the field.

🌊Sailing Into Wellness provided an experiential taster of our 'Day-Sailing' programme and also delivered a workshop, sharing Tessa's findings in her PhD Study 1 with Maynooth University.

🙌We are excited to be part of this growing community and look forward to working together in Ireland in 2028, to help shape the future of Adventure Therapy in Europe. ✨

Sailing into Wellness is heading to the Gathering of Adventure Therapy Europe this week

We are facilitating an experiential sailing day on Wednesday 20th, where we will give people a taste of our sail therapy programme.

In addition, we are delivering a presentation/workshop on Friday 9am - 12.30, where Tessa will present the findings of her PhD study 1 on the use of sailing as a therapeutic intervention for people with backgrounds in the criminal justice system. After the presentation Leonie and Tessa will facilitate a practical workshop including hands on activities, break out groups and discussions.

Week 1 in Waterford.

Our month of 'Foundation Programmes' in DunmoreEast are off to a great start 🙌

Groups:
⚓ Aiséirí Men's House
⚓Cornmarket Wexford
⚓Chéim Eile Women's House
⚓Minceiri Portlairge

A variety of community groups from a range of backgrounds had their first day this week. We met 28 wonderful individuals, who we have the privilege of working with for the next 4 weeks. Everyone coming with their own hopes, nerves, fears, excitement and enthusiasm.

SIW Foundation programme: Groups of 6-8 people come one day a week for 4 consecutive weeks.

Goals for week 1 included:
⛵ Rapport & trust building - get to know each other
⛵ Familiarity with the boats - try something new, pick up a few skills
⛵ Self awareness & reflection - where am I at, what do I want from this time? Comfort zones & stretch zones
⛵ Headspace - switch off and recharge
⛵Regulation - nervous system & emotional
⛵ Fun - remember to bring a bit of spark back into daily life

In Waterford we are working with organisations supporting people on journeys of: addiction recovery, social exclusion, criminal justice system, mental health, women's support services, education and community integration.

Our focus is always: meeting people where they are at, and tailoring the programme to compliment their wider life goals.

Thanks to the local DME business and organisations who help us out:

Skipper & crew training on board AK Ilen in Kinsale, Cork.

Our flagship takes a team to run. And that team needs to be familiar with the boat and the processes in all situations.

We were delighted to get new and old Skippers and Crew together to go over essential manoeuvres and emergency procedures ⚓

📍Kinsale, Co Cork

🌬️The first breeze of the sailing season is special but when Kinsale delivers sunshine too, now that's the cherry on top!

👉As part of 'Women in Sport Week 2026', in collaboration with Cork Sports Partnership, we welcomed a fantastic group of ladies on board our Hawk 20s to introduce them to the joys of sailing. ⛵

👉Also, thrilled to have a new group from Cork Life Centre join us for a 4-week 'Day Sailing' programme, so keeping our fingers crossed the weather behaves, going forward.

Working together, sharing knowledge, building skills and confidence on the water, being present.......we allow the rhythm of the tide and the wind set the scene for a great day together.

🎉Feeling very grateful to be running our first Cork-based programmes for 2026 from our new Pier Road location in Kinsale. Many more programmes to follow .....🎉

10/03/2026

⛵With full sails and open hearts ....we're officially back on the water!

Leaving the shore helps one to naturally reset and find a sense of calm. On board, we have connection and community and by simply being 'in the moment', the magic happens.

☺️Our friends from Coolmine Therapeutic Community have joined us for a 4-week 'Day Sailing' programme in Dun Laoghaire and we're enjoying the benefits of camaraderie, teamwork and time for reflection.

🌊 Sailing skills develop naturally, new perspectives unfold and laughter is key. Good weather has been a welcome bonus too.......roll on the next few weeks together.😎
