⏳ The countdown is on the Billy O’Connor Memorial Run takes place tomorrow! 🏍️🏎️

Tomorrow, we come together to honour the memory of Billy O’Connor, a dedicated volunteer and great friend of Help Our Homeless.

Organised by the 4 Counties R.C, this special run celebrates Billy’s life while raising vital funds to support people experiencing homelessness, a cause he cared deeply about. 💙

A huge thank you to the 4 Counties R.C for organising this wonderful tribute and to everyone taking part and showing their support.

We’re honoured to share this special event organised by The 4 Counties R.C in memory of Billy O’Connor, a valued volunteer and true friend of Help Our Homeless 🏍️🏎️

Billy gave his time, energy, and heart to supporting others, and this run is a fantastic way to celebrate his life while continuing the work he cared so deeply about. All proceeds from the day will go towards helping those experiencing homelessness 💙

🐣🌧️ As Storm Dave approaches tonight, our thoughts and prayers are with those who have no shelter to call their own.
While many of us are settling in with our families, preparing to celebrate Easter and waiting for the Easter Bunny 🐰 🏡, there are people out there facing the cold, wind and rain alone 🌧️☔️

Tomorrow, our collections will go ahead as normal. Any surplus Easter treats, food or essentials will be so deeply appreciated and will bring a little bit of comfort and kindness to those who need it most 🍫🍪🥪

This event is in memory of Billy O Connor, Billy was a valued volunteer of Help Our Homeless with his wife Mhairi. He will be remembered and sadly missed forever.

All proceeds go to Help Our Homeless.

‼️Update – Kingscourt‼️

We want to give you all an update regarding the young man in Kingscourt. Thankfully, he has secured accommodation for the weekend. We are relieved he has somewhere safe and warm for now 🏠

However, this situation once again shows how broken the system is. No one should be left outside in freezing temperatures. Cavan County Council has still not made contact, and once again vulnerable people are being left out in the cold. That is simply not good enough 🥶

On Monday, we go again. We will continue fighting for him and for all the people of Cavan who are homeless or at risk. We will not stop pushing until proper support is in place 💙

We also want to apologise if we haven’t responded to all comments and messages. It has been an incredibly busy and stressful few days, and we’re doing our very best on the ground.

For clarity:
• The Garda Station in Kingscourt isn’t open on a full time basis
• A&E will not keep someone once they establish the person is homeless and not in any medical need.
• We tried B&Bs locally, but unfortunately there was no availability.
• Emergency accommodation is extremely difficult to secure at short notice.

Despite all of this, we will keep fighting.

🚨 VOLUNTEERS URGENTLY NEEDED 🚨

Help Our Homeless is desperately seeking volunteers to help us continue supporting those most in need.

🚗 DUBLIN – We urgently need drivers to help with collections and outreach. Even a few hours can make a huge difference.

🤝 COUNTY CAVAN – Volunteers urgently needed in:
• Kingscourt
• Cootehill
• Bailieborough

🤝 COUNTY MONAGHAN – Volunteers urgently needed in:
• Carrickmacross
• Castleblayney
• Monaghan Town
• Clones

We would also love to add new collection points — if there’s a town or area where you’d be interested in helping us set one up, please let us know.

The demand has never been higher, and without volunteers we simply cannot reach everyone who needs help.

Once again Maria Diver, Aongus O Donnell and Ardara community you never let us down 🙏😇

This wonderful collection was handed to our homeless all over the Christmas period and we still some left 🥶🎅🫶

🎄Christmas Day outreach🎄

While most families woke up this morning to warm homes, gathering around the tree, and the sound of wrapping paper being torn open, the Help Our Homeless team set off across the city 🌇🎅

No dining tables 🍽️ No Christmas trees 🎄 No place to call home 🏡 Instead, we travelled street to street, park to park, handing out Christmas dinners to those who would otherwise go without. For many, this was the only meal they would receive today. Today they enjoyed a homemade 3 course meal: soup, turkey & ham roast and trifle for desert 😋

As many of us now sit stuffed from dinner and sweets, surrounded by loved ones, please take a moment to think of those spending Christmas cold, alone, and forgotten 🥶😢
