Meet our Leinster athletes!🤩🏅✨

Yesterday we cheered on Team Kare as they set off for the Special Olympics Ireland Summer Games.

Across basketball, bocce and bowling, golf and equestrian competitions, these 15 athletes will be competing for medals while also enjoying the social aspects of the Games.

We are exceptionally proud of each of our athletes and coaches and all of the hard work they have put in to reach this stage. We wish them the very best of luck for what promises to be an action-packed and enjoyable weekend.

Sam, Kenny, Elaine and Stephen are spreading the word about safe online dating!

They recently met HSE Ireland CEO Anne O'Connor and Minister of State Kieran O'Donnell at a Department of Health stakeholder forum to discuss Ireland's first National Policy for Adult Safeguarding in the Health and Social Care Sector.

This Forum brings together organisations from across the health and social care sector to support the implementation of the policy, which aims to expand and strengthen adult safeguarding across the sector, ensuring adults at risk are protected against abuse and harm.

The group shared their Safe Online Dating video, which was created by and starring people supported by Kare. It gives tips and advice to help stay safe when meeting people online and in real life.

We were delighted to be presented with a cheque for €4,000 from Team905 Cycling Club following this year’s Pat Jones Memorial Cycle 🚴‍♂️

This is the third year the club has chosen to support Kare, and we are very grateful for their continued generosity. The funds raised will make a real difference to the people we support in our Edenderry local service.

The cheque was presented last week, and was a lovely opportunity to come together, say thank you and celebrate with everyone involved. On the night, our CEO Margaret O'Neill also presented certificates to individuals who have recently completed further education and training programmes with Edenderry Further Education Centre👏

A huge well done to everyone who organised, took part in and supported this fantastic event.

✨ A fantastic celebration of community, culture and inclusion last Saturday at Newbridge Festival Of Dance as part of June Fest Newbridge.

More than 20 people from Kare took to the stage, performing alongside a mix of local groups, from line dancers and jivers to Irish dancers and traditional Indian performers, along with the amazing energy and support of the audience.

Over the past four weeks, Caroline Morrissey and volunteers from Kildare Irish Figure Dancers generously gave their time to help our dancers prepare for the event. The weekly workshops were filled with fun and laughter, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to come together.

Thank you to Caroline and her team, and to all of the families and staff members who gave their time and encouragement over the bank holiday weekend to make the day such a success.

Opportunities like this help people connect with their community, grow in confidence and enjoy being part of something together.

Well done to everyone involved! 💜

Did you know that routine activities, like parking and bin collections, can make it more challenging for people with disabilities to go about their daily lives?

Last Friday was Make Way Day, and we took to the streets of Kildare to spread the message about the role we each play in making our shared public spaces accessible for everyone.

Well done to Tully Rd, Academy St and all the Make Way Day advocates who were out and about in their local communities to highlight opportunities for improvement.

Voice for Kare visited the Houses of the Oireachtas yesterday evening, kindly hosted by Sean O'Fearghail TD.

As well as a fantastic guided tour of Leinster House including watching live votes and a Senate debate, we had the opportunity to meet other representatives from Kare's catchment area, Minister Martin Heydon and Edward Timmins TD.

Voice for Kare Chairperson David Leigh presented Sean O'Fearghail with a letter from the committee outlining some of the key issues faced by people with disabilities today.

Thank you to Sean and all of the staff and representatives we met, who were so welcoming and accommodating.
