A Government response team has investigated and confirmed a sighting of an Asian Hornet in Ireland. While there isn’t a significant public health risk to humans, this species can be very detrimental to honeybee populations and biodiversity. Report any potential sightings to the National Biodiversity Data Centre and use this visual to help you distinguish the Asian Hornet from other species.

We need your help!
The Cryptic Wood White is double-brooded (producing 2 generations in a single year) in parts of Europe and thought to be single-brooded in Ireland. We’re interested in finding out if there are any sightings from late July or from now on, so please keep an eye out in your locality and submit any records to us as per the instructions at the end of the blog post at the following link. If you are submitting records, you need to be confident that you've identified the Cryptic Wood White correctly. The upperwings are milky white with distinctly rounded edges. The males have a black mark in the edge of the forewing - but this is not always obvious. The undersides are white, with indistinct grey or greenish markings.
