Birreencorragh 14th March

A magnificent hike on Birreencorragh via Mount Eagle. Starting within the forest of the Wild Nephin National Park and ascending the ridge to Mount Eagle 427m, over to spot height 551, and up the ridge to the cairn on the top of Birreencorragh at 698m.

The day was perfect, offering spectacular views, and the sprinkle of snow was the icing on top.

Join Sanctuary Runners Ireland in our first Enniscrone get-together of 2026. Meeting at the West Sligo Family Resource Centre at 5pm. We will enjoy a walk and a chat followed by tea/coffee. Everyone welcome!

The Sanctuary Runers is an Irish initiative which brings communities together through physical activities and solidarity.

New University of Galway findings show that Sanctuary Runners’ “We run as one” model genuinely transforms communities. By spending time together, Irish locals and people from asylum, refugee, and migrant backgrounds build connection, wellbeing, and belonging.

Our annual Christmas Nephin hike was just magical this year. Blue skies, cold fresh air, and a dusting of snow at the Summit. The perfect ending to another year of walking with the best company.

We are really excited for all that 2026 will bring.

The cold snap has passed and we had a beautiful crisp morning for our Larganmore loop walk this morning.

Wet underfoot at times but worth the scramble to enjoy the views and the fresh air.

North Mayo magic!

A new and beautiful route along the North Mayo coastline. Not a lot of climbing but lots of challenges, and stunning views.

We sat on the rocks overlooking the Atlantic enjoying our sandwiches. All the money in the world couldn't buy you a better lunch spot.

Reminder: Our AGM takes place on Thursday night at 8pm in the Family Resource Centre. Everyone welcome

Today we hiked in the Sheffries, in the hills surrounding the Glenlaur valley. Our start point by a Western Way waypoint and headed up to the coll overlooking Lough Lugacollie and up the hill onto the plateau to the top at 742m and following the south ridge to the Barnaderg area and back to the start point.

Approx 13km walking. Weather conditions warm with a light breeze.
