We have some fantastic news to share 🎉HUGE congratulations to our Veterinary Nurse Fiona, who won the IVNA (Irish Veterinary Nursing Association) Veterinary Nurse of the Year Award! 🏆

We're also incredibly proud that our Head Veterinary Nurse, Michelle, was shortlisted for this prestigious award, recognising her dedication, professionalism and commitment to animal welfare.

Fiona joined The Irish Blue Cross as a locum in June last year before becoming a permanent member of our veterinary team, and we couldn't be more delighted to see her hard work recognised in this way.

Having two of our Veterinary Nurses acknowledged at these awards is a wonderful achievement and a testament to the exceptional care they provide to the animals and communities we serve every day.

Please join us in congratulating Fiona on her well-deserved win and Michelle for being shortlisted! 👏💙

With temperatures set to rise over the coming days, we are pleading with pet owners to help keep cats and dogs safe in the heat.

Dogs can be at risk of heatstroke in temperatures over 20°C, especially during exercise. Flat-faced breeds like Pugs and Bulldogs, overweight dogs, and pets with underlying health conditions can be vulnerable even in cooler weather.

🚫 Never leave a dog in a hot car
🚶‍♂️ Skip walks during peak heat or walk early morning / late evening
🌳 Ensure pets have access to shade indoors and outdoors
💧 Always provide plenty of fresh water

Please keep pets cool, safe, and comfortable during warm weather: https://www.bluecross.ie/whats-happening/pet-tips-for-hot-weather/

We urgently need volunteer drivers for our mobile clinics. If you know anybody with a C1 licence who might be willing to donate a few hours of their time, one night a week, please share this post with them. They might be a retired lorry or bus driver or have worked with the emergency services. We'd also love if you could share this post in any local community groups you might be members of. The importance of microchipping! The Clontarf cat was found in Drogheda due to kind residents bringing him to be scanned at a local vet practice 😸 If your cat (or dog) isn’t already chipped - see: https://www.bluecross.ie/whats-happening/microchipping/

A Dublin couple were left stunned after their missing cat turned up more than 50 kilometres from home, safe, well and making friends in Drogheda.

Clontarf residents Rob O’Hanrahan and his wife Katie had been searching for their beloved cat Chef for more than two weeks after he disappeared from their home.

Chef, who Rob says rarely strayed far from the family cul-de-sac, vanished around two and a half weeks ago.

The couple launched a determined search, putting up posters and walking local roads shaking food bags in the hope of tempting him home.

“We spent the last two weeks putting up posters and walking the roads around us shaking food bags and attracting every other cat in the Dublin 3 area apart from our one that was missing,” Rob said.

But the mystery took an unexpected turn when the family received a phone call from AllPets Veterinary Hospital.

“They told us Chef had been handed in, alive and well,” Rob said. “The only strange thing was that it was from the Allpets Veterinary Hospital... in Drogheda.”
