Family Resource Centre St. Michaels Estate

Family Resource Centre St. Michaels Estate The Family Resource Centre has been delivering grassroots Community Development 35 years in St. Michaels Estate and surrounding areas.

We work with women, new communities, children, older people, men, and Travellers. The FRC CDP acknowledges that Irish society has significant inequalities in relation to income, resources and power. We are aware that the gap between rich and poor continues to widen. We are also keenly aware of many sections of Irish society who are discriminated against and as a result are often marginalized and b

enefit less from progress made locally and nationally. The FRC CDP through its policy work at a local and national level challenges this engrained and structural inequality. We work with the most marginalized people in the area. We believe in people’s capacity to grow and change and contribute to making their lives, their children’s lives and their community`'s life better. We meet people where they are at in their lives and we have a genuine commitment to people of all ages, gender, sexuality, race, ability etc. We value the human rights of the people we work with and we work diligently to make people aware of their rights and to protect those rights. At the heart of The FRC CDP is an open door, a warm welcome, a non-judgmental attitude and genuine solidarity. Basic Principles
It is the view of the Family Resource Centre that the growing inequality, poverty and exclusion, which characterise Irish society, are linked closely to the structures by which our society is organised. To address these inequalities and divides, we believe, that action that involves those who experience exclusion, i.e. women, the unemployed, the working class, the gay community and Travellers, new communities, are a priority in bringing about social change. Family Resource Centre
The role of the Family Resource Centre, through its commitment to community development, is to contribute to social change at a local and national level. Overall aim of the project:

We work closely with all the voluntary and statuary services in the area for the betterment of people’s lives and communities with the aim of equality for all, we leave no-one behind. Model of Practice
Our work is rooted in solidarity with those who experience social exclusion and is based on creating real partnerships that involve them.

• Our approach is concerned with making contact and supporting people who are isolated in the community of St. Michael’s Estate through Outreach work.
• Providing a warm and friendly environment in the centres.
• Offering local educational opportunities for development.
• Offering training opportunities which are a means of raising awareness,
politicising, developing skills and analysis on an individual and collective basis.
• Through joint designing and evaluation of all programmes and through the provision of opportunities for users to move into leadership positions. We aim to encourage real participation at all levels of the organisation.
• Developing new approaches through working in partnerships with voluntary and statutory groups and semi-state bodies. An element of this work includes the education of the above groups to the needs and rights of the local community.
• Networking with groups, local regional and national

The Flames Not Flowers collective was established in 2016 as part of the centenary commemorations of the Easter Rising, with the aim of highlighting the women who had been largely written out of Irish history. The group is made up of working-class Dublin women who come together to creatively draw attention to social injustices such as homelessness, violence against women, and poverty.

Using public cultural moments like Bloomsday, they bring their messages directly to the public through performance and activism. In 2022, The Flames Not Flowers expanded their reach internationally by bringing their campaign to preserve Ireland’s neutrality to the European Parliament in Brussels.

As they marks their 10-year anniversary in 2026, The Flames Not Flowers turns its focus to women’s position within Ireland’s workforce. Their work this year highlights how women are the backbone of Irish society, sustaining communities through both paid labour and the often unrecognised, unpaid role of caregiving. By bringing visibility to this dual burden, the collective continues its mission of challenging inequality and amplifying the lived realities of working-class women across Ireland this May Day.
