Hospital Family Resource Centre Marks World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
On Thursday, 11th June, the Hospital Family Resource Centre observed World Elder Abuse Awareness Day by hosting an informative session to highlight the importance of recognising and addressing elder abuse. Jacinta Sheerin from Adapt Services delivered a workshop to raise awareness of what constitutes elder abuse and the support services available to those affected.

Elder abuse refers to the mistreatment of individuals aged 65 or over, typically occurring in relationships where trust is expected. It can involve a single incident or repeated acts — or even neglect — that cause harm, distress, or infringe on the person’s human and civil rights.

If you are concerned about yourself or someone you know, please reach out. You can contact:
• Your local health centre
• Your GP
• A public health nurse
• Garda Síochána

Additionally, support and information are available through:
• HSE Information Line: 1800 700 700
• Adapt Services Freephone Helpline: 1800 200 504

Let’s continue to support, protect, and stand with older members of our community.

Caherconlish Networking Event was held on Tuesday, 2nd June. The different groups in the area enjoyed a lovely afternoon at the Millennium Centre in Caherconlish. They had a lovely meal followed by a wonderful and energetic afternoon of Music & Dancing by Kim’s People. There was also a raffle with some great spot prizes. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day. Step Forward Disability Group & Limerick Active Travel – MakeWayDay 2026
The Limerick County Active Travel Team members, Tobin Goodwin and Sasa Novak, partnered with members of the Step Forward Disability Group for this year’s MakeWayDay2026 campaign to raise awareness of the importance of accessible footpaths across Limerick City and County. As part of the project, 5th and 6th‑class students from Hospital Primary School joined the campaign. After watching the Think Before You Park video and meeting Step Forward members, the students carried out an access audit in Hospital Village.
🔍 Issues they identified included:

🚗 Cars on footpaths — blocking safe passage
🗑️ Bins narrowing walkways
⚠️ Damaged footpaths — creating trip hazards
🛍️ Obstructive shop displays — restricting wheelchair access
These obstacles are not unique to Limerick; they can be found in towns and villages.

MakeWayDay2026 is a national movement raising awareness about how everyday obstacles — cars, bins, signage, and more — impact older people, people with disabilities, and parents with buggies. 📞 For more information about the campaign or the work of the Step Forward Disability Group, contact Martha at 087 2813341. .local.link.limerick.clare Limerick Post Newspaper Limerick Leader

Hospital FRC Mini Break to Kilkenny – Everyone was in great spirits as they set off on Tuesday morning, 12th May, for a four-day trip to Kilkenny. Highlights of the trip included visits to Kilkenny Castle, Train Ride of Kilkenny City, a visit to Arboretum Outlet Carlow for some flower shopping and a tour of Altamont Gardens.

This break was made possible through the support and organisation of volunteers from Hospital and Galbally, working in partnership with the Hospital FRC. A special thanks to Maureen Browne, Mairead Cussen, Noreen O’Brien, Nell Kennedy, and Diane McNay & HSE Mid/West for funding our ongoing work with older people in the community.
