HearMe

HearMe Hear Me was developed in 2015 by staff & students at NUI Galway who had a vision that 'everyone has a right to be heard'. It is our aim to change this.

HearMe is a specialist training programme which aims to create awareness around communication difficulties and educate service industry staff in how to effectively communicate with people with communication difficulties. A training package was co-designed and co-developed with people who have difficulties communicating, with an aim to create awareness, train and educate service industry staff abou

t differences in how customers communicate. This training equips participants with the tools and strategies to communicate more effectively with people with communication difficulties and therefore create inclusive, accessible and communication friendly environments which support people of all abilities. Communication is a basic human right however unfortunately this can often be taken for granted. Communication difficulties can be a hidden and misunderstood disability. Thus, service industry staff can often struggle to identify these difficulties and support communication with these people. This unfortunately can restrict access to services and inclusion in society for people with communication difficulties. Online training launching soon..
