Galway Simon Community

Galway Simon Community Providing support and accommodation services to people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Galway, Mayo and Roscommon since 1979.

Our vision is a community where everyone has a place to call home. Galway Simon Community was set up in 1979 by a group of volunteers who refused to accept homelessness on the streets of Galway. With the support of the wider community, we have grown, developed, learned and adapted over the years to become a leading provider of homeless and homelessness prevention services in the region. At Galway

Simon Community, we support a person’s right to security, dignity and wellbeing in their own home. We are relentlessly committed to finding answers to the questions faced by real people at risk of, or experiencing, homelessness. It is our belief that early intervention is the most effective means of reducing the trauma and cost associated with homelessness. We work with a clear vision in mind: A community where everyone has a place to call home. Registered Charity No. 20018962

✨ We're delighted to share some wonderful news ✨

Galway Simon Community has been awarded €4,000 in funding from Galway City Council to support "Reconnecting Through Creativity & Culture", a creative wellbeing programme running throughout summer 2026.

This programme will use art workshops, therapy retreats and cultural visits to support wellbeing, confidence, belonging and social connection for adults experiencing homelessness or social exclusion.

A heartfelt thank you to Galway City Council for supporting creativity, inclusion and meaningful connection. Stay tuned — we're really looking forward to sharing updates as the programme unfolds this summer. 💛

€13,835.60 raised in one weekend. That’s the power of community. 💛

Behind every bucket, smile and thank you was a volunteer giving their time. Around 90 volunteers supported our Church Gate Collections across 33 churches on May 16 and 17, helping make the weekend such a success. 💫

Galway Simon Community was founded by volunteers in 1979 and, more than 45 years later, that spirit of kindness and community remains at the heart of everything we do.

To every volunteer, parishioner and church community who supported us — thank you. We’re always grateful to hear from people who would like to volunteer their time and support our work.
Your generosity helps us continue supporting people facing homelessness across Galway, Mayo and Roscommon. 💛

Meet another one of our Steps for Simon teams, “Too Many Steps, Not Enough Siesta” ⬇️

Well done to Laura, Sofia, Cristina and Laia, who are part of an 8-strong volunteer group stepping up for Galway Simon this May. 💛
As Laura shares, “It helps me get out of the house even when I don’t want to”.

With just two days left of Steps for Simon, there is still time to support the team and the challenge before the month wraps up: https://www.idonate.ie/event/StepsforSimon2026

Every step, share and donation helps us continue supporting people facing homelessness across Galway, Mayo and Roscommon. ✨

Sometimes the most important step is the first conversation. 👇🏻

For many people who contact Galway Simon, reaching out for help is not easy. It often happens after weeks or months of trying to manage housing pressures alone. When someone speaks to a support worker, the first step is listening.

From there, practical solutions can begin. Advice about a tenancy, advocacy with services, or planning the next steps before a housing situation worsens.
These conversations happen quietly every day, helping people find stability before crisis occurs.

💛 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED 💛

Would you like to make a real difference in your local community?

Galway Simon Community is currently looking for volunteers to support our charity shop at:
📍 Sean Mulvoy Road
📍 Sea Road

Our shops play a vital role in supporting the work we do across Galway, Mayo and Roscommon — and we’re always looking for friendly, reliable people to join the team.

Volunteer roles can include:
• Welcoming and assisting customers
• Sorting donations
• Merchandising & organising stock
• General shop support
• Helping create a warm and welcoming environment

Even a couple of hours a week can make a huge difference 💛

There are also lots of other ways to get involved with Galway Simon through fundraising events, corporate volunteering, community initiatives and more.

Volunteering is a great way to meet people, build connections, gain experience, and support people experiencing homelessness across the West of Ireland.

If you’d like to learn more or get involved, please get in touch today — we’d love to hear from you.

For many young people leaving care or unstable housing situations, independence can arrive suddenly. Without the right support, everyday decisions about housing, education and finances can feel overwhelming.

Stability often begins with simple but essential foundations: safe housing, practical guidance and someone who can offer reassurance during uncertain moments.
With early, consistent support, young people can begin building the confidence needed to move forward.

💛 Monthly donors help us to ensure that this guidance remains available when young people need it most: https://galwaysimon.ie/donate/
