Galway Simon Community

Galway Simon Community Providing support and accommodation services to people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Galway, Mayo and Roscommon since 1979.

Our vision is a community where everyone has a place to call home. Galway Simon Community was set up in 1979 by a group of volunteers who refused to accept homelessness on the streets of Galway. With the support of the wider community, we have grown, developed, learned and adapted over the years to become a leading provider of homeless and homelessness prevention services in the region. At Galway

Simon Community, we support a person’s right to security, dignity and wellbeing in their own home. We are relentlessly committed to finding answers to the questions faced by real people at risk of, or experiencing, homelessness. It is our belief that early intervention is the most effective means of reducing the trauma and cost associated with homelessness. We work with a clear vision in mind: A community where everyone has a place to call home. Registered Charity No. 20018962

Not everyone grows up feeling settled.

For some young people, instability can become part of everyday life without really being questioned. Moving between places, adjusting to different environments, never quite feeling fully at home anywhere. Over time, that can start to feel like the norm, rather than what it is: homelessness.
It’s often only later that the impact becomes clearer, and how different things might have been with the right support along the way.

Monthly donations from people in our community help ensure we can be there to offer that kind of steady guidance, when a young person needs it most. 💛

8.5 million steps walked. Over €14,000 raised. One incredible community. 💛

A huge thank you to everyone who stepped up for Steps for Simon this May.
Together, our participants walked over 8.5 million steps in support of Galway Simon Community, helping to raise vital funds for people facing homelessness across Galway, Mayo and Roscommon.

We set out with a goal of €10,000 and thanks to the generosity, energy and kindness of everyone involved, over €14,000 has been raised.

A special thank you to the Salthill Rotary Club for supporting us throughout May with their Kick the Wall initiative in Salthill, and to every single person who tapped and donated along the way. 💫

We’d also like to thank the brilliant local businesses who kindly provided spot prizes for our participants: Laura Burke Fitness, Active Fitness & Leisure, Warehouse Gym, Kingfisher, The Pilatescene, Brigit’s Garden, Amber, Hyde, Big Dipper Mayo, Film Fleadh, SoulMoves, nuasan, Galway Races and Petmania.

Every step, every tap and every donation helps Galway Simon Community continue our mission to support people at risk of or experiencing homelessness in Galway, Mayo and Roscommon, and to work towards a future where everyone has a safe place to call home.

Thank you for stepping up for Galway Simon! 💛

Last Friday, we were proud to see our Corporate Partnerships Fundraiser, Hannah Ryan, recognised at the Network Ireland Galway Businesswoman of the Year Awards.

Network Ireland continues to create an incredible platform for women in business to connect, learn, grow and support one another, and the energy in the room was a powerful reminder of what can happen when people are encouraged to reach their full potential.

At Galway Simon Community, we believe that investing in people, creating opportunities and supporting leadership development strengthens not only individuals, but our communities too.

As we work alongside businesses across Galway, Mayo and Roscommon, we're continually inspired by organisations that invest in their people, champion inclusion and understand the value of giving back to their communities.

Congratulations to all of the finalists and winners on the night, and thank you to Network Ireland Galway for celebrating leadership, ambition and community impact.

Look around a room full of Galway Simon volunteers and you’ll see so much more than people giving their time. 💛
You’ll see the kindness that started Galway Simon Community back in 1979, the steady commitment that has carried the work forward over the years, and the community spirit that continues to support people across Galway, Mayo and Roscommon today.

On 9 June, we had the pleasure of bringing some of our wonderful volunteers together at PorterShed for a special Volunteer Appreciation Event, with coffee, cakes, music and plenty of lovely moments shared.

The Galway Simon Music Project Choir were brilliant, and we were delighted to recognise many of our volunteers with certificates celebrating their years of service.

A special thank you to HYDE and Ground and Co for donating vouchers, which were presented to our long-service volunteers on the day.

To every volunteer who gives their time, care and support to Galway Simon Community, whether you’ve been with us for years or are newly part of the journey, thank you for being part of something that has always depended on people choosing to show up for others.

Interested in volunteering with Galway Simon Community? We’d love to hear from you! 💛

Why challenge yourself? Because sometimes the most meaningful things start with saying yes to something a little outside your comfort zone. 🌅

Getting up early, wrapping up warm, stepping onto the beach at dawn and maybe even getting into the cold sea. Dip at Dawn is a challenge, but it’s one we face together. 💛

There’s no pressure and no expectations. Dip if you feel comfortable, or simply come along to soak up the sunrise, the atmosphere and the feeling of doing something good for Galway Simon.

Men’s Health Week is an opportunity to reflect on the many different factors that shape men’s health and wellbeing. ⬇️

For men experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity, looking after your health is not always straightforward. Health is about more than physical wellbeing. It is also about safety, stability, mental health, connection, dignity and access to support.
At Galway Simon Community, we support many men across Galway, Mayo and Roscommon through our services, helping them to access the practical, emotional, health and housing supports they need to lead healthy lives.

This Men’s Health Week, we’re recognising the importance of ensuring every man has the support and opportunity to look after their wellbeing.

“A little seed was planted many years ago…” 🌅

For Laragh Cunningham of , Dip at Dawn began with a quiet thought, shaped through conversations with people supporting Galway Simon Community. She had a simple vision: people coming together at sunrise, saluting the sun, and giving back to a local cause.

Years later, when the idea of yoga on the beach came up, it just made sense. June 21st, International Yoga Day and the longest day of the year, felt like the perfect day to bring it to life. ✨
Laragh chose Galway Simon because homelessness and housing inequality can affect anyone, and because supporting local really matters.

Her advice? Keep it simple, don’t overthink it and do something good for your community. 💛
Join us for Dip at Dawn and be part of something truly special.
