St Josephs Community Centre Shantalla Community Centre Welcome to the official page for St Josephs Community Centre. The centre is located in Shantalla close to Galway City Centre.

It hosts a variety of communities amongst them Galway Community Circus, The Men’s Shed City West, The Karate Club and Scouts. Classes taking place in the centre include Circus for all ages, Karate, Aikido, Tai Chi, Club Shine and Ballet. Galway Arts Centre Community Employment Programme

The G

alway Arts Centre is the sponsor of a city based Community Employment Programme offering placements in Cultural and Community based organisations, including St Josephs Community Centre, Galway Arts Centre, Cuirt International Festival of Literature, The Blue Theatre Performance Academy, Baboro International Arts Festival for Children, An Taibhdhearc, Our Lady's Boys Club, Shantalla Residents Association, The Galway Rowing Club and An Meitheal Rothar. Roles include receptionists, administration and accounts assistants, theatre support personnel, assistant curators, caretakers, maintenance crew, outdoor maintenance crew, social media and PR assistants, outreach and community workers and bicycle mechanic trainees. In house and accredited training is provided for all of the above roles and the Galway Arts Centre encourages and assists all participants in sourcing relevant training courses the will improve employment prospects in the cultural and community sector. The Galway Arts Centre welcomes applicants from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. All vacancies for the above CE programme are listed on the Jobsireland website and the Galway Arts Centre website as they arise. All applicants must fulfil DSP eligibility for CE, i.e. over 21years of age and in receipt of unemployment assistance for a minimum of 12 months. The death has occurred of

Tom Flanagan
Oranmore, Galway / Bohermore, Galway
The death has occurred of Tom Flanagan, Lios na Crí, Oranmore, Co. Galway, formerly of Bohermore, Galway. January 10th, 2026, peacefully, accompanied by his family at University Hospital Galway.
Predeceased by his loving parents, Bridie and Tom.
He will be dearly remembered by his loving wife Mary; sons Kevin and Thomas; daughters Lorraine and Helena; his daughter-in-law Megs; Ronan, Calem and Eloisa; and his cherished grandchildren, Caoimhe, Oisín, Fionn, Jack, Rowan, Cian, João, and Calem. Sadly missed by his brothers Seán, Pádraig and Gerard; sisters Mary, Cáitríona, Teresa, Angela and Sheila; as well as his extended family and many friends.

May he rest in peace.

Reposing in Tearmann Mhuire, within the grounds of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Oranmore (H91 XC61), on Sunday, 11th January, from 5pm until 7pm. Requiem Mass will take place on Monday, 12th January, in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Oranmore, at 12 noon. Mass can be viewed live at https://www.oranmoreparish.org/live/ and will be broadcast on Parish Radio 105.3FM.
A private family service will be held on Tuesday, 13th January, at Shannon Crematorium.

Condolences to the family can be left below or sent in the traditional manner. Tom’s family deeply appreciates your kindness, loyalty, and support at this time.

We would like to acknowledge and extend our gratitude to Galway City Council for their continued Grant Aid, professionalism, and support. This years CAIRDE Grant aid provided by the Galway City Council was invaluable in the essential improvement and maintenance of our Centre's Security, Electrical, Heating, and Structural works.

Our center management with the aid of our beloved Community Employment Scheme aims to continuously improve, and strives to make it an all-inclusive destination of excellence, for all groups in our immediate community and beyond.
