Gort Cancer Support Our centre provides holistic support & practical assistance to people affected by a cancer diagnosis, predominantly in South Galway & North Clare. RCN: 20075927

Gort Cancer Support was established in June 2007 to provide support and practical assistance to people affected by a cancer diagnosis. We adopt a holistic approach towards our clients and their family members by providing a range of activities and social events which will enhance our clients wellbeing and coping skills. Our cancer support centre is managed and operated by trained volunteers with the assistance of administrative staff and professional therapists. We offer a home from home environment where one will feel relaxed and welcome. Our Registered Charity Number (RCN) is 20075927.

Can you believe another month has passed already? We look forward to welcoming you to our next Stronger Together Support Group.

Join us on Tuesday 6th October from 10.30am to 12 noon for a warm & welcoming morning of connection, conversation & support.

Facilitated by Anne Gallagher, one of our counsellors, this group provides a safe & supportive space where you can share experiences, listen to others & connect with people who understand the impact of a cancer diagnosis.

Open to anyone living with or beyond cancer, the group offers an opportunity to meet others with similar experiences in a relaxed & understanding environment.

Today marks the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This month is an important reminder for us all to be breast aware. Breast cancer can affect anyone, regardless of age or gender, so take time to know what is normal for your body & check for any unusual changes. If something doesn't feel right, contact your GP. Early detection can make a real difference.

Today, we hold in our thoughts those recently diagnosed, those undergoing treatment, survivors & all families affected by breast cancer. At Gort Cancer Support, we are here to provide support from diagnosis, through treatment & beyond. To learn more about our services, contact us on 086 1724500.

What is breast density?

Breast density describes the amount of fibrous & glandular tissue compared with fatty tissue in the breast. Having dense breasts is common & completely normal. However, dense breast tissue can make it more difficult to spot abnormalities on a mammogram & can be associated with an increased risk of breast cancer.

Breast density cannot be determined by how breasts look or feel. It can only be assessed through breast imaging such as a mammogram.

As part of our 'What Is...?' Wednesday series for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we're raising awareness of breast density & encouraging informed conversations about breast health.

💗 Know your normal. 💗 Attend breast screening when invited. 💗 Speak with your healthcare professional if you have questions about your breast health.

Help us celebrate 20 years of Gort Cancer Support.

We're still looking for clients, past & present, to share their memories & experiences of our centre & services.

It doesn't need to be a lengthy piece. Whether it's a few words, a favourite moment, a note of thanks or a personal story, we'd love to hear from you. You can write it down yourself or simply call in & chat with us.

Your contribution may be featured in a commemorative book that we hope to produce as part of our 20th anniversary celebrations.

We've extended the deadline slightly, so if you've been meaning to get in touch, now is the perfect time.
