Galway Hospice

Galway Hospice We provide compassionate, specialist palliative care, supporting people with life-limiting illness and their families. Thank you for your support.

Galway Hospice provides specialist palliative care services to adults and children with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses throughout Galway, as well as providing support to their families and carers. These services include Community Palliative Care, Inpatient Care, Day Care and Bereavement Support. Galway Hospice began providing care for the people of Galway 30 years ago, in January 1990. I

n 2019, Galway Hospice cared for over 1,000 patients and demand for its services continues to grow each year. The Hospice is heavily dependent on fundraising and must raise over €2m annually to fund its essential services. Donations from the public last year allowed the Community Palliative Care Team to make over 7,000 visits to patients living in their own homes, and meant over 1,000 visits to the Day Care Service.

Our music therapy sessions in Day Care always carry a special kind of energy, and last week’s session with Ronan and Genevieve was truly something to witness 🎵🎤

A unique atmosphere filled the room - an energy that felt both grounding and uplifting, especially in moments like these ✨

These sessions remind us how deeply music can reach the heart, offering comfort, connection, and joy in the most meaningful ways 💚

🌻 Rita Molloy Our 2026 Hospice Hero 🌻

“I’ve been collecting with Galway Hospice for over 30 years. My daughter was doing her Leaving Cert when one of her friends became very sick. She lived outside Gort, up in a mountain area, and Galway Hospice was coming out to the house to look after her. My daughter said, ‘Why can’t we do something?’ So from that, we started fundraising - and 30 years later, we’re still doing the collection in Gort, which is great.

Galway Hospice was absolutely brilliant back then. To be able to come out to people’s homes like that so many years ago was amazing. And if they could do that then, you can only imagine the facilities and support they are giving people now.”

For more than three decades, Rita has been at the heart of Sunflower Days in Gort, bringing together volunteers, local businesses and supporters to help raise vital funds for Galway Hospice. Last year alone, the Gort collection raised more than €5,000 over two days.

Thank you, Rita, for your kindness, commitment and unwavering support over so many years 💚

This National Carers Week, we celebrate the quiet strength, endless patience, and deep compassion shown by carers every single day 💚

Carers bring light into challenging moments and create comfort through their presence. Their work is not defined by tasks alone, but by the love behind each one: the early mornings, the late nights, the gentle encouragement, the steady presence that helps someone feel safe and supported.

To every carer - whether you support a family member, a friend, or someone in your community your kindness is felt deeply. Your work is meaningful. And your impact is immeasurable.

We see you. We appreciate you. And we thank you for the compassion you share so generously 🙏
