The Analog Devices Cork City Marathon is always a memorable day. The Club had 52 runners across the 3 races and a few stewards.
The highlights of the day was the National Half Marathon Championships and the M50 team proved again that they’re among the best in the country, finishing in 2nd place!! 🥈👏👏👏
Tony Dunne won gold 🥇 in the M80 and Liam O’Connor won silver 🥈 in the M55. Congratulations guys!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Well done to all the runners especially those who ran their very first marathon, half marathon and 10k!! 👏👏💪💪
Below are 3 great write ups, one from each race:
AOIFE O’MAHONY - Cork City 10km
“We set off on the Cork City 10km from South Mall this year, amongst a sea of yellow in memory of Ellen. Although everyone was remembering the sad event that had happened 12 months previous, there were smiles, cheers, excitement and an amazing atmosphere, as we stood like sardines in a can getting ready to take off. We took off down Washington Street, where the crowds were gathering, cheering us on and before we knew it, the 1st kilometre was done. We passed Fitzgeralds park, crossed the Mardyke bridge and again it started to feel like we were sardines for about 500 metres along the Lee banks walkway, not easy to gather speed or overtake here. Soon after, it was time to tackle Blackpool, which felt sentimental, having grown up in that neck of the woods! Slight elevation gain here but it is relieved with a nice downhill stretch back into the city. Last few kilometres were through the centre of the city, over Patrick’s bridge, where a drizzle of rain was welcomed in the heat. We met the huge crowds of spectators once we turned onto North Main Street and by the time we turned the corner onto Washington Street, it starts to feel like we were about to win an Olympic medal, with the cheering, kids hanging over the railings to get a “high five” and cameras everywhere we looked. What an experience! I didn’t set out to get my PB in this race, instead ran with a group of friends who had never done a race before. It was my first time running a race and being able to take in every second of it, enjoy what was going on around me and not look at my watch once, I’d highly recommend it. To sum up the experience- it was so good, those first time racers I ran with are now booking the Bob Burke!”
LIAM O’CONNOR - HALF MARATHON
“A tough but rewarding day at the Cork City and National Half Marathon. The warm conditions and challenging course made for a demanding race from start to finish.
I ran alongside Kieran Mc Keown my Coach for most of the race, working together well and keeping the pace honest over the undulating route. Despite the tough conditions, I was delighted to cross the line in 1:18:58, which earned me 2nd place in my age category and helped secure 2nd place in the M50 team competition.
Overall, a very satisfying performance on a course that demanded plenty of patience and determination. A big thanks to Kieran for the company and teamwork throughout the race.”
IAN REDMOND - MARATHON
“This time last year I had only just finished my second half marathon in Cork and the minute the entries opened for 2026 I said let’s go and do the full for this year.
Training started back in February for this. 17 weeks of ups and downs with the training. As the weeks ticked down the training got tough. Few niggles along the way but got through it. The lead up to this was tough, the anxiety was horrible and I don’t suffer with it but it was tough 🤣.
So the plan today was just to finish. Didn’t care about times as I was gonna do a PB. Race started at 8.15 and away we went. The first 21km was lonesome I found as you don’t have the crowd as much but I was comfortable. The second half was brutal. I got to 30km and i hit the wall 🤣. I had only got to 30k on training due to injuries but I knew I could finish it. The climbs were tough had to walk up a few but I didn’t care. Loads were walking them and it was just to keep the feet moving. As the kms ticked down grange members passed and couraged me on to keep going. Caroline caught up with me from her half marathon and honestly she got me through that horrible wall I hit. I even had tears coming down my face as It was emotional. I told Caroline to keep going as she was flying it. I got to the home stretch and walked/ran it as the legs had enough and Marian caught up with me and helped me over the line.
The experience was amazing. Sub 4hrs for my first marathon I’ll take it. To every grange club member out there today I thank you so much for getting me over that line ❤️. Looking forward to doing some shorter races over the coming summer now 😅. Then I’ll get ready for Valencia in December. Had second thoughts about that today lol! Cork City Marathon 2026 - 3hrs 57:17”
