Irish Surfing was proud to attend the (ESF) Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Lacanau, France.

Representatives from surfing nations across Europe came together to discuss the future of our sport, including the development of a new European Olympic qualification pathway, updates to the ESF constitution, and strategic plans to strengthen and grow surfing across the continent.

The AGM was also attended by Robert Fasulo from the contributing to discussions on the future direction of surfing at both European and international levels.

A key theme throughout the meeting was the importance of ensuring that the future growth of European surfing is inclusive, transparent, and representative of all member nations. As the sport continues to evolve, there was a strong recognition that progress should be built on the values and foundations established by those who helped create and develop the ESF.

The Assembly also took a moment to reflect on the history of European surfing and honour those who have made significant contributions to its development. A minute's silence was observed in memory of Doug Creedon and other members of the European surfing family who have recently passed away. Doug's vision, dedication, and commitment to European surfing helped shape the organisation we know today, and his legacy continues to be felt across the continent.

Irish Surfing looks forward to continuing to work alongside our European partners to build a strong and sustainable future for surfing, while respecting the history and people who made that future possible.

With the spell of good weather and increased numbers heading to the coast, Irish Surfing is reminding all water users to stay vigilant and make safety the priority before entering the water.

We would also like to commend the surf community, particularly in Bundoran, for carrying out several high-risk rescues over the last few days. Thanks to their extensive water knowledge, experience, and skill, incidents that could have had much more serious outcomes were safely averted. It is a strong reminder of the power of the ocean and the importance of respecting sea conditions at all times.

Always choose lifeguard-patrolled beaches and never enter water where there is no lifeguard service in operation. Rip currents and changing sea conditions can become dangerous within seconds and can quickly catch even experienced water users off guard.

Check local conditions, never swim or surf alone, keep a close eye on children at all times, and if in doubt stay out.

Respect the ocean and enjoy the coastline safely this summer.

For Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD), weโ€™re celebrating the incredible impact of working together to make the ocean accessible for all .

Through collaboration between Irish Surfing, local surf clubs, and Local Sports Partnerships in Clare, Waterford, and Donegal, barriers to the waves are being broken down every day.

By combining national expertise, community passion, and local support, these partnerships help provide adaptive equipment, specialist training, and inclusive surf programmes, from the reefs of Lahinch to the beaches of Rossnowlagh and the coves of Tramore.

Together, weโ€™re creating more opportunities for everyone to experience the joy of surfing.

Apologies for the change but unfortunately outside of our control.

All entries will remain in the draw and entries will remain open for the new dates.

Unfortunately, due to a lack of swell, the Irish Surfing Nationals cannot run as planned.

The event has now been rescheduled to the backup dates May 9th & 10th, when we hope to have more favourable conditions to deliver a competition worthy of the occasion.
All entries will be carried forward to the new dates and will also reopen for further entries.

We appreciate everyoneโ€™s understanding, as always, conditions come first in surfing. We look forward to seeing you all in May for what promises to be a great weekend of competition.

Stay tuned for further updates.
