⭐️⭐️⭐️ Picker Picnic Monday ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Huge thanks to all those who braved the damp morning to assist the Tidy Towns Volunteers with a clean up of the village. After collecting litter pickers and bags from the Court House, they set off to collect roadside rubbish from designated areas.

Once the clean-up was completed all the new recruits gathered in Dunshaughlin Park for a fun filled hour of entertainment provided by magician, Seán Hegarty. While not quite pulling any rabbits out of his hat, Seán captivated the audience with a variety of "tricks of the trade". He was ably assisted by members of the audience in providing his magic.

The Tidy Towns Group were delighted to provide much needed refreshments for all the recruits. Thanks to Dunshaughlin Supervalu for providing the goodies for the kiddies. It is wonderful to experience the support from the community with enhancing the environment for all to enjoy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

🌞🌞🌞 National Volunteer Week 2026 🌞🌞🌞

Our celebration of National Volunteer Week continued last week with two more groups of eager participants assisting us with our
activities.

On Wednesday evening (20th May), 17 Beaver Scouts and their
mentors cleaned up the car park at St. Patrick and St.
Seachnall's Church. They also removed weeds, dirt and grit from the footpaths on Johnstown Lane. With all tasks completed, Tidy Town Volunteers were delighted to treat the group to some refreshments courtesy of a complimentary Hamper received from Meath Volunteer Centre. (www.volunteermeath.ie)

On Thursday evening (21st May), 17 Brownies came to Dunshaughlin Park to transform the car park area. They carried out the difficult task of removing the extensive growth of grass and weeds along the kerbs. Once completed, Volunteers were pleased
to host a "Picnic in the Park" for them again availing of the Hamper from Meath Volunteer Centre. The parents and guardians of the Brownies did a whip around and kindly presented a donation to the Dunshaughlin Tidy Towns group. 🌞🌞🌞

✨✨✨✨ National Volunteering Week 2026 ✨✨✨✨

As part of National Volunteering Week, Dunshaughlin Tidy Towns Volunteers were joined by students from Coláiste Ríoga (https://colaisterioga.ie) on both Monday & Tuesday this week to add some sparkle to the footpaths on the Dublin side of the town.

On Monday afternoon, two small groups of students cleared weeds from along the edges and swept the footpaths around Dunshaughlin Care Home.

Tuesday morning it was the turn of 3rd Year students to add the sparkle to the opposite side of the road. They cleared and swept the pathway in front of Seachnall Abbey and Fairfield.

The students enjoyed completing the assigned tasks and did so with great enthusiasm and commitment. Tidy Town Volunteers really appreciate the help and support from the many youth groups in the community. Every action, no matter how small, has an impact and helps to inspire and connect us. All their help can make a measurable difference to Dunshaughlin and enhance the environment for all to enjoy. 🌺🌺🌺🌺

An Taisce - National Spring Clean - Another Clean Sweep for Dunshaughlin

Tidy Town Volunteers have been hugely impressed by the number of students who have so willingly given their time to be involved with the group this year. Generally, the scheme runs for two weeks but Tidy Towns have agreed to extend it for another week as many other groups want to help.

This week, three more groups participated in the scheme including;

On Wednesday morning 14 Transition Year students from Dunshaughlin Community College (https://www.dunshaughlincc.ie) carried out clean up duties in the grounds of Dunshaughlin Civic Offices and in the adjoining car park.

Later on Wednesday we were joined by 23 pupils from Gaelscoil na Ríthe (https://www.gaelscoilnarithe.ie) who were busy removing weeds and sweeping the footpath outside their school.

Thursday afternoon 21 pupils from St. Seachnall's National School (https://www.stseachnalls.ie) transformed the paved area in the Friendship Garden and also the roadside footpaths outside their school.

Tidy Town Volunteers really appreciate the help and support from all those who have been involved. During the past two weeks a total of 243 young people from 8 different groups have participated in this community initiative. We are sure you will agree that areas of Dunshaughlin are sparkling in the sunshine. 😎 🌟 😎 🌟 😎🌟

🌍🌎 What a Wonderful World 🌍🌎

On Wednesday 22nd April we celebrated Earth Day and from early morning there was a great buzz about Dunshaughlin Park. While this year’s theme was Our Power, Our Planet it was the display of posters submitted for the Awareness Poster Campaign "Bulbs for the Bees" that added to the Spring sunshine🌞🌞. A total of 332 posters, created by students from the local schools, were displayed throughout the Park. At the end of the day the posters were returned to the schools so that they could be enjoyed by the whole school community. One of the posters favoured by Tidy Towns was designed by Giulia Bearovic from Coláiste Ríoga.🌺🌺

A fun filled day was planned with workshops, music and dance. Attendees learned how to make an Organic Bird Feeder, many got to take home a Waste Caddy for their kitchen while others discovered how long it takes items to decompose in the Garbage Graveyard.

Dunshaughlin Tidy Towns are indebted to those who provided entertainment in various forms throughout the day. The exceptional musical talent of the members of The Voculeles, our very own Ukelele Group ✨. To Roisin de Blacam for her Poetry Reading✨, to Dee Reilly of Whole Body Wellness for her talk on "Simple ways to Mind Yourself"✨. For a finale we had the wonderful Dunshaughlin Dance ✨ troupe who recently qualified for the Dance World Cup which will be staged in Dublin later this year.

We were delighted to welcome members of Dunshaughlin Care Home and especially to have Mercy Thomas (Director of Nursing) and Kevin Doyle (Activities Co-Ordinator) assist us with the planting of a White Pine Tree. According to tradition, the White Pine is often planted to signify peace, harmony and unity among people 🌳🌳.

The Tidy Towns Group would like to thank support from Community Foundation Ireland (www.communityfoundation.ie) Meath County Council and cpac modular (www.cpacmodular.com)

🌍🌍 EARTH DAY 2026 🌍🌍
Reminder to join us in Dunshaughlin Park on Wednesday 22nd April (11am - 4pm) to celebrate Earth Day 2026. This year's theme is Our Power, Our Planet.

A fun filled day has been planned with workshops, music and dance. Learn how to create an Organic Bird Feeder, take home a Waste Caddy for your kitchen or discover how long it takes items to decompose in the Garbage Graveyard. A Children's Book Swop (bring a book - take a book) is to share the joy of reading!

A White Pine Tree will be planted on the day. The White Pine is a central symbol of peace, strength and unity. The tree's immense height signifies that the peace and law are visible to all, while its evergreen nature represents the endurance of this peace.

There will also be an opportunity to view the plans for the Dunshaughlin Scouting Facility and Nature Reserve by 7th Meath Dunshaughlin Scout Group.

The Tidy Towns Group would like to thank support from Community Foundation Ireland (www.communityfoundation.ie) Meath County Council and cpac modular (www.cpacmodular.com)
