The Market House and Coach House are available for community meetings, projects, corporate events and workshops. The Market House is a charitable trust organisation established by the Dunleer Community Development Board (DCDB), Dunleer Town, Co. The house was constructed in the early 1800's as the Municipal Market House. Later it became the Roman Catholic Parochial House for several decades, being
sold in the early 1990's when it became a B&B Business, then finally purchased by the County Government (Louth County Council) with the intention of it being redeveloped into a District Civic Amenity (Library, Offices, Community Services, etc.) The Community has always been supportive of the idea, and with the downturn, it seemed the House and it's Campus would be sold, however the DCDB impressed upon the County Louth Government Authorities not to dispose of the Buildings, which was successful. As some of you may or may not be aware, it has been a long held ambition of the Dunleer Community Development Board to have the old Parochial House restored/reopened as a Civic Amenity for the Community, be it a Library, Art Gallery, Bookshop, Meeting rooms, etc, from as far back as 2006. In the Intervening years, there had been talk of selling the property to private buyers, but the DCDB persuaded & convinced the Councillors and Officials of the Local Authorities not to sell the Property, as it could be so much more to the Community, and we demonstrated the uses that it could be adapted to for the enjoyment of as many people as possible, whilst not duplicating the services that were already provided for in other amenity facilities of Dunleer town. That done, and our former parochial House secured in County Ownership, the DCDB set about forming a Business Plan to outline our goals and aspirations for the house and gardens, which we entitled ‘Dunleer Community House’. Some potential uses may include services for the elderly, active retirees, parent toddler groups, meeting rooms, farmers markets, etc. When we started outlining our plans, potential community stakeholders were very impressed, and none more so than Mr. Martin Naughton, of Glen Dimplex Group. He assured us of his support, and let us know if we needed any advice, he would be there for the project. Quite simply we would not be here today without his most generous support and wise advice. We also wish to than Louth Leader Parnership Co., Dunleer Credit Union, Louth County Council and our fellow citizens, the people of Mid-Louth, for your generosity and support.
