🚒 Baltinglass & Dunlavin Fire Stations – Update

Following the announcement earlier this year in April of €6 million in funding for two new fire stations in Baltinglass and Dunlavin, I’m pleased to share a further update.

It is currently intended that both new fire stations will go to tender together as one single contract in mid-September.

This is positive progress for both towns. Our local firefighters are there when we need them most, and they deserve modern facilities that support them in the important work they do. For the wider community, it’s an investment in a vital local emergency service that families and businesses across our area rely on.

I’ll keep you updated as things progress to tender and dleivery.

A big thank you from all at Dunlavin Tidy Towns to Avril Cronin for using her discretionary funding to support the recent resurfacing works to the footpath in Dunlavin graveyard.

This was necessary work that will make a real difference to people visiting the graveyard. Having a safe, even surface means that those using wheelchairs or with limited mobility can get as close as possible to the graves of their loved ones.

Unless you or someone close to you has needed this kind of access, it can be difficult to put into words just how important it is. Everyone should be able to visit a loved one’s grave safely and with dignity.

As always, we greatly appreciate Avril’s continued support for Dunlavin and for the work we do as a Tidy Towns group. This is just one of a number of projects she has supported through her discretionary funding over the years, helping us to make practical improvements throughout our town.

Thank you, Avril, for continuing to listen, support and invest in Dunlavin. It is very much appreciated by all of us at Dunlavin Tidy Towns.

We know our Tuesday litter picks don’t suit everyone, especially those who are working during the week — and that’s completely understandable.

So this week we’re organising a Saturday litter pick as well, in the hope that more people can join us for an hour and help keep Dunlavin looking its best. Hopefully this can be continued going forward and also lead to a situation where people meet up without a formal call out.

Every bit really does count, and even a small turnout makes a big difference to the town.

Tuesday, May 12 at 10am (meeting at 1798 monument)

Saturday, May 16 at 10am (meeting at 1798 monument)

We’d love to see a few new faces out with us!

We want to make people aware that dog fouling is becoming a real issue around Dunlavin again.

During recent clean ups, volunteers have been picking up bags of dog waste from ditches, bushes and trees around the village. We understand there may not always be a public bin nearby, but bagged waste needs to be brought home and placed in household bins if there isn’t one available. Most dog owners already do this every day and we would ask everyone to do the same.

Unfortunately, one wheelchair user recently ended up with dog foul on her hands after rolling through it on a footpath. It highlights how dog fouling affects far more than just the appearance of the village. It impacts accessibility, public health and the comfort of everyone using shared spaces.

Most dog owners are responsible and respectful, and we appreciate that. We’re simply asking everyone to help keep Dunlavin clean, safe and welcoming for all.

Please bag it, bring it home if needed, and dispose of it properly.

Our 2026 Tidy Towns application has officially been submitted.

A big thank you to everyone who has helped out so far this year, whether that’s coming to clean ups, picking litter, planting flowers or even just helping keep the town looking well day to day.
It all adds up.

We’ve lots more planned over the coming months, including more clean ups, so make sure to follow the page to keep up to date with what we’re up to and how you can get involved.

Every bit of help makes a difference.

Our Tidy Towns committee is busy this week getting the village looking its best ahead of the adjudicator’s visit, which can happen at any time.

We also want the town in great shape for visitors coming to the Arts Festival this weekend, and of course for everyone who lives here and takes pride in our lovely village.

You can help us out by taking your rubbish home with you or using the bins in the town.
If a bin is full, please don’t leave rubbish beside it, it will only get pulled apart by birds and animals.
Just bring it home instead.

Thanks so much for your support so far, every little bit makes a big difference!
