Dungarvan Youth Centre is home to three Full time projects under Waterford and South Tipperary Community Youth Service. Dungarvan community youth Project: works with young people aged 10-21 from Dungarvan town and its surrounding areas. The project was established in 1989 and is funded through the Department of Children and Youth Affairs. The project aims to meet the needs of the young people invo
lved through educational, developmental and activity based programmes. The young people are supported to identify their own needs and to develop and participate in appropriate responses. The work of the project is supported by a one full time worker and a team of local volunteers. Currently there are approx. 65 young people engaging in the project on a weekly basis through a number of different initiatives such as our Educational Support Programme, weekly core groups, and drop in sessions, special interest programmes, summer programmes, residential programmes, trips and one-to-one support. Day Project: works with young people aged 12 to 18 who are at risk of becoming involved in criminal activity and those who have received a caution through the JLO system. The project works with young people through group work, one-to-one support, special interest programmes and education and training support. The project is funded by the Department of Justice through the Irish Youth Justice Service and the European Social fund and has two full time workers. There are currently 25 young people engaged in the project with the capacity to work with 40 should they wish to engage. County Waterford Community Based Drugs Initiative: works with people directly or indirectly affected by drug or alcohol misuse. The project operates an open access evening every Wednesday in the centre offering a range of services such as counselling, acupuncture, detox and harm reduction advice to those affected by drug and awareness programme's in the community and to individuals on demand. The project facilitates a family support group every Tuesday morning.
