– Feminist approach and philosophy informing practice

– Respect for the individual

– Huma

n Rights protection

– Freedom of expression

– Mutual Aid and self help approach

– Non-judgmental service provision

– Recognising power inequalities in society

A true strength of Women’s Aid Dundalk is that regardless of status, there is a shared compassion and concern for one another at the centre of the expertise in the organisation and this is inherent in all services it provides.

An organisation in the United States that assists women and men affected by domestic abuse has recently launched a campaign to encourage 100 men to each donate $100. Organisers clarified that they hoped to encourage participants in the community to become visible role models against domestic violence, but recognised that domestic abuse does not discriminate and can happen to anyone. Many people clearly recognise how much better they feel after a good night's sleep. Your partner may also know that the opposite is true and use that to their advantage, preventing you from getting the sleep you need.

Maybe they regularly insist on discussing things immediately and that they cannot wait until the morning. Perhaps they get so upset if you sleep a little later on the weekends that you know by now it's best not to even attempt it. They might also demand that you do things for them right away, even after you've clearly expressed the need or desire to rest.

Perpetrators of domestic abuse often want to position their partners as mentally unstable or unable to advocate for themselves. Stopping you from sleeping supports those aims because sleep is a biological necessity for functioning.

Domestic abuse does not always present in the ways you might expect based on media portrayals or accounts from people you know. If you're worried about how your partner is behaving or treating you and your children, our trained staff members are here to listen and help. Contact them at anytime by dialing 0429333244.

Relationships aren't always easy, but if your partner wants to ignore problems and doesn't allow room for discussing them, those are signs of a potentially bigger matter.

People in healthy relationships feel safe and supported when they bring up issues and express a desire to work through them together when possible. You also shouldn't feel put down or forced into silence for disagreeing with your partner about the presence of these issues and how to handle them.

Feeling worried that you might be in an abusive relationship? We're here to listen whenever you're ready to talk. Contact our 24-hour helpline at 0429333244.

Mounting evidence of a link between domestic violence and animal abuse has caused some to campaign for a register listing those who have harmed animals. One woman in support of this possibility is a mother whose daughter was killed at age 26 by her husband. During their seven-year relationship, he reportedly killed numerous animals and used his spouse's love of animals against her.

The emerging information about this connection has already resulted in a domestic violence charity organising training for veterinarians and other relevant professionals, equipping them to spot potential signs of domestic violence.
