Emily McCusker, Community Health & Wellbeing Manager, attended the Our Place, Our Future – A Place Standard Tool for Ireland event in Dundalk Sports Complex, Muirhevnamor yesterday.

Facilitated through the Sláintecare Healthy Communities Programme, the workshop used the Irish Place Standard Tool to explore how Muirhevnamor District Park works as a place, supporting discussions around what is working well, areas for improvement, and future priorities as part of the emerging district park masterplan.

The session highlighted the importance of connecting physical and social aspects of communities to improve health and wellbeing. Valuable insights were shared by local residents, council representatives, and local services, helping to shape stronger, more empowered communities.

Louth Local Development is delighted to welcome the announcement by Minister Dara Calleary of funding for 52 trails under the Walks Scheme.

As part of this significant funding allocation, both the Táin Way and Slieve Foy trails in County Louth will each receive €10,000 towards essential upgrade and restoration works, supporting the continued enhancement of our natural amenities and outdoor recreation offering.

A special word of thanks to our Rural Recreation Officer, Cathal Byrne, for his dedication in working closely with Walks Scheme participants, managing the application process, and helping secure this valuable investment for our local trails.

This funding represents an important boost for sustainable rural recreation, community engagement, and the preservation of some of County Louth’s most treasured walking routes.
