Five-year-old Nyabhan Yien was once living with severe epilepsy that left her vulnerable to frequent seizures and injuries. Concerned for her safety, her family would tie her at home when she became highly active or had seizures.

Since starting treatment and regular follow-up at the Ethiopia Humanitarian Fund ( ) supported GOAL health facility in Tomorok camp, Gambella, Nyabhan has made significant progress. She has now gone more than three months without a seizure.

The change has given Nyabhan and her family a new sense of freedom. Instead of being confined at home for her safety, she now attends child-friendly spaces, where she can learn, play and spend time with other children her age.

While GOAL continues to respond to the immediate needs of communities affected by the ongoing conflict in Sudan, investing in people's skills creates opportunities that can last long after emergency assistance ends in stable areas.

With generous funding from the European Union, GOAL supported 25 women from Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) in Abujehieha, Sudan, to strengthen their livelihoods through practical vocational training. Participants received hands-on instruction in soap making, pastry production, and tailoring, equipping them with the skills to start or expand small income-generating activities.

Building resilience means meeting immediate needs while creating opportunities for people to earn an income, support their families, and achieve long-term security.

For years, families in Tehma, Sierra Leone, lived without safe drinking water. Four attempts to drill a borehole failed, and many feared clean water would never reach their community.

Instead of giving up, GOAL Sierra Leone and Charity: Water found another solution. A solar-powered water system now pumps clean water from a successful borehole in neighbouring Jao, providing safe drinking water to both communities.

Today, families no longer rely on unsafe streams, children are less exposed to waterborne diseases, and clean water is available close to home.

"Many times, we thought it would never happen. Today, we have clean water," says Baby Dakowa.

This is what persistence, innovation, and community partnership can achieve.

One month on from the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela, recovery is only beginning for thousands of families.

In La Guaira, one of the hardest-hit areas, GOAL teams are working on the ground providing emergency supplies to communities affected by the disaster.

With the generosity of supporters and Irish Aid, GOALies are delivering kitchen kits, shelter materials and other household essentials to help families improve their living conditions and begin rebuilding their lives with greater safety and dignity.

When Manalil fled the conflict in Sudan while pregnant, she arrived in South Sudan with uncertainty and one pressing question: Where could she safely deliver her baby?

Thanks to healthcare services supported by the European Union and delivered by GOAL and Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH), she found the care she needed. From antenatal care to the safe delivery of her son and continued support for both her children, access to healthcare has given her family hope and stability during displacement.

Hope Through Care: Saving a Young Life in Luak D**g

When five-year-old Nyabal suffered a severe epileptic seizure in Luak D**g refugee camp, her family believed she had died and began preparing for her burial. Displaced from South Sudan and cut off from consistent healthcare, her condition had gone untreated for years until a GOAL community outreach team knocked on their door.

With support from the Ethiopia Humanitarian Fund (EHF), GOAL connected Nyabal to medical care and psychosocial support that changed her life. Today, she plays and laughs alongside other children in the camp.

In Zimbabwe's Gutu District, recurring droughts and erratic rainfall have made access to safe water increasingly difficult.

For many families, especially women and girls, collecting water meant walking long distances every day, often relying on unsafe sources.

With funding from the United States Government and in collaboration with the Government of Zimbabwe, GOAL and LEAD completed the Jori Piped Water Scheme in March 2026. The project replaces scattered and unreliable water points with a pressurised piped network that delivers safe water through strategically located tap stands closer to households.

Key results:
• 20,000+ people with improved access to safe water
• 10 villages benefiting from the scheme
• 4,500 households reached

Speaking at the completion and handover ceremony, Assistant Director Josephine Francesco of the U.S Embassy highlighted that the scheme contributes to the wider U.S Government commitment to strengthening rural water resilience across Zimbabwe. Since 2020, more than 1,000 boreholes have been drilled across the country, improving clean water access for over 200,000 rural residents.
