Donate in lieu of Christmas Cards

Thank you to all our Christmas card customers over the years. Your purchases have supported our work and helped spread the word to others.

Last year, we sold our final stock and due to the higher production costs, we have decided not to print new cards this year. There would be little margin for us and we did not want to significantly increase the price to you.
You can still give your support during the festive period. We have e-cards which you can send to family, friends and colleagues in lieu of a physical card and postage. Simply make a donation in lieu of buying cards and postage, and then email us at [email protected] to request an e-card. We might be able to personalise it for you too.

Vintage Vehicles – New Supporters

We were very touched at being chosen by the Louth Abbey Vintage Club as their charity for their car and tractor run, held in memory of their great friend, the late Ben Byrne.

They had a great turn out for the day, which saw cars, tractors and a few motorcycles too, all of which gleamed in the lovely September sunshine. In addition, the club was supported by local businesses who “rallied around” to give raffle prizes, supply burgers and to generally help to ensure a successful and enjoyable day was had.

In total, €4,000 has been raised and will be used for patient care and research in our Liver Unit. We are very grateful to the club committee, members and everyone connected to the event for this wonderful support.

When Emma Hanley decided to cut 20 inches of her hair to donate to charity, she also chose to raise funds for our work.

Championing Learning & Development at St. Michael’s Hospital

We are delighted to support our teams at St. Michael’s Hospital with funding for a pilot scheme to drive staff training and development. The project’s overall goal is to enhance staff professional competencies and the overall hospital performance.
Improving training compliance is not only critical for regulatory and accreditation purposes, but it also fosters a culture of continuous professional development and patient-centred care. The new project will partner with managers and training leads to stream line processes and access to training and boost engagement and completion rates.

The talented staff in our hospitals are at the forefront of patient care and we are proud to help teams with their ongoing development and growth.

A New Chapter in Liver Transplantation at St. Vincent’s University Hospital Begins

The National Liver Transplant Programme, for the whole country, is based St Vincent’s University Hospital. The team here has been providing life-changing liver transplantation since 1993. Today, thanks to our supporters, they are using new, innovative technology as St. Vincent’s Healthcare Foundation has funded their first Perfusion Machine and specialist training for the team using it.
What is machine perfusion? It’s an advanced technique that allows a donated organ to be preserved and assessed outside the body before transplantation. So, it gives the medical team flexibility to optimise donated organs before transplantation surgery. For patients on the transplant waiting list, this technology represents the potential to increase access to suitable donor organs and improve transplantation outcomes.

The introduction of machine perfusion is not simply about bringing a new piece of technology into the hospital, but it marks an important milestone for liver transplantation at St Vincent’s University Hospital and reflects the commitment to embracing innovation that can give donated organs the best possible chance of helping those who need them.

The team knows that investment in perfusion machinery and training will help advance liver transplantation into the future. At the heart of this work, however, are the generous donors and their families who make transplantation possible. Their decision to donate gives hope to patients and families at some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Every transplant begins with that extraordinary act of generosity.

Pan Can Golf Day "Fore" Pancreatic Cancer Research

Our great friends Liam Holland and Ray McElhinney were back in the driving seat for their annual "Pan Can Golf Day" raising funds for pancreatic cancer research.
The friends have families touched by pancreatic cancer and 4 years ago they decided to do something to raise awareness and funds. Hence, "Pan Can" was created at Blainroe Golf Club, in County Wicklow.
This year, 45 teams took part making it the biggest event yet. We send our thanks to Liam and Ray for their hard work and continued support and look forward to hearing how much was raised. We know everyone taking part had a super day, so we also send our thanks to every participant and the sponsors who so kindly gave their support.

Des Furlong Memorial Tournament .... Update !

Our own Helen McVeigh had the pleasure of meeting members of the Furlong Family in Co Wexford for a cheque presentation at CLG Naomh Pádraig, following the hugely successful Des Furlong Memorial Tournament in August. The final total raised was €9,505.70 which will be allocated to the work of St. Vincent’s University Hospital ICU team.

Joining Helen were generations of the family, along with a few friends and the local newspaper photographer! Our thanks again go to Des' wife, Fiona, their daughters Teghan and Abbie and his mum Stasia – all of whom were part of the event and cheque presentation. We appreciate your touching support and hospitality and are delighted your event so successful.

Des Furlong Memorial Tournament

A summer bank holiday Monday might be a day for resting and recharging for many – not the Furlong family. They chose the day to stage a special 7-a-side Ladies Gaelic Football tournament at their GAA club, CLG Naomh Pádraig. Organisers Teghan and Abbie put the event together in memory of their late dad, Des Furlong, and were joined by family and friends from across the club and wider Camolin community.

Des was known as being a true gentleman who dedicated much of his life to his daughters and to coaching and supporting his GAA club. It is really fitting, then, that the day in his honour proved such a success. Not did the large crowd have a good time, but €9,202 was raised for our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) team at St. Vincent’s University Hospital.

We send our thanks to everyone that helped organise the match, raffle and refreshments and to all that took part and supported. Your efforts are hugely appreciated, by us and those working in the ICU.

Taking Steps in Support of Breast Cancer Care

Members of the Women’s Squad of the Railway Union Rugby Club took great steps to raise funds for our breast cancer care services. The team undertook a 24-hour walk in June and raised a fantastic €7,764.00 for us. The event was organised across the day and night through a relay, in recognition of a team-mate undergoing treatment.

The walk took the team near our hospitals in Elm Park, as it wound its way from Sandy Park to Sandymount. Simultaneously, the Exeter Chiefs, in their support of their former player, undertook a 24 Hour Walk in East Devon, including their beach at Exmouth.
We are so grateful for this very kind support that is a true demonstration of teamwork and friendship.

New Overnight Sleeper Chairs for C.F. Unit

We have funded the purchase of two new overnight sleeper chairs for use on St. Christopher’s Ward, where care is provided for Cystic Fibrosis and Respiratory patients.

The chairs are specially designed for comfort, whilst conforming to infection control measures, and are used by patient relatives and friends. They cleverly convert to beds for those wishing to stay with their loved one overnight or for long periods of time.

We know patients are pleased to have this support from their family and friends, especially at a time of great need.
