We had a moment of real worry tonight on the food run. Watching the queue stretch out at the end, we were very uneasy and genuinely thought we would run short. Luckily looking down on us, we went right down to the 299th meal and no one was left without food. Every single person was fed, even though the tables were quite crowded tonight.

As we repeat every week, we set down a food layout across our five tables with all kinds of meals and what we saw very apparently tonight was the sheer amount of people looking for sleeping bags. Being going into our 11th year out there, we know that there is going to be a huge need for sleeping bags. People prefer to sleep on the streets in the summer rather than being at the hostels, because they feel unsafe in some of them.

What shattered our hearts the most this week, however, was the visible surge in gender-based violence. We saw a deeply concerning increase in the number of women on the streets, women who, for whatever reason, find themselves lost in life and vulnerable to its harshest elements. The physical toll was devastating to see: bruises and cuts on faces that no one should ever have to bear. It is incredibly hard to take when you realize the sheer scale of what they are going through.

That being said, all we can do is give them a little bit of support. We give them the correct information, what is needed for them, a listening ear, and some food and comfort. The truth is, we absolutely cannot continue to do this without you.

If you would like to support our soup run and help us keep showing up for those who have nowhere else to turn, please consider donating.http://msoe.ie/index.php/component/sppagebuilder/?view=page&id=41. Every bit helps us keep the tables full and the support flowing. Thank you for standing with us.

First of all, a huge shout out to Hollypark Girls National School. The mammies and daddies held a cake sale today, and all of the leftover cakes were kindly brought to us by a lovely lady and two of the children from the school. The homeless were absolutely overjoyed. There were every kind of cakes you could imagine. Every single one of them was gone by the end of the night. Thank you to girls at Hollypark Girls National School for such a thoughtful and generous gesture.

While the cakes brought plenty of smiles, it was also a very difficult night.

We were slightly under on food and had only 350 hot meals available. For the first time in a long time, five people were left without a hot meal. Thankfully, we had enough soup and were able to make up the difference with yoghurts, drinks, fruit and vegetables, ensuring nobody walked away empty-handed.

As we have mentioned before, the number of rough sleepers increases during the warmer months. Many people choose not to go into hostels, and as a result we are seeing more people sleeping on the streets.

One young lad came to us tonight with no money, nothing to his name, and nowhere to stay. He wasn't registered with the homeless services. We rang the freephone number and were told he could not be given a bed or hostel accommodation unless he was registered. We then rang the rough sleepers number, but it wasn't open until 10pm and it wasn't a freephone service. The young lad didn't even have a phone. A few of us came together and pooled what we could to give him enough money for a hostel for the night. We gave him the information he needed and encouraged him to get himself sorted first thing in the morning.

Those are the moments that stay with you.

When someone is standing in front of you, desperate for somewhere safe to sleep, pleading for help, it is heartbreaking. You can't help but wonder where they would end up. Every person we meet is somebody's son or daughter, and that is one of the most devastating realities of the homeless crisis.

The van was absolutely packed tonight, with another car following behind that was also full to the brim. Yet everything was gone within one hour and forty-five minutes.

That's the frightening part. You arrive thinking you have enough, maybe even too much, and before you know it every single item has been distributed.

We gave out lots of sleeping bags tonight and, with the good weather arriving, there were countless requests for tents. The stories we hear every week are heartbreaking. Many of them are simply too difficult to share publicly.

One thing we noticed tonight was an increase in elderly people using Zimmer frames. That was particularly difficult to see. We also have a blind gentleman who comes to us every single week. The fact that people have to wait week after week for this support is heartbreaking.

We are incredibly blessed to have five six-foot tables — 30 feet of food in total. When people leave our stall, they don't just leave with a hot meal. Most leave with two or three bags of shopping as well.

None of this would be possible without your continued kindness, generosity and support.

Thank you for helping us help others.

Tonight was an extremely warm night on the streets, and demand for our service was higher than ever. Thanks to your support, we provided just under 400 meals this evening.

Our transport vehicle was full to the brim, and every single item, from hot meals to fresh fruits, vegetables, treats, sleeping bags and tents was distributed.

Two interactions broke our hearts and reminded us why we are out here:
2 weeks ago, we shared a story about a beautiful, proud gentleman who refused his hot meal because he heard there were still 89 people behind him. Tonight, he returned in a heartbreaking state. His only pair of trousers was badly torn, leaving his legs exposed, and he had an old jacket tied around his waist for cover. His runners were far too big. Our founder immediately called over a volunteer to take him into Penneys, instructing him to buy two of everything: trousers, t-shirts, sweatshirts, socks, underwear, a jacket, and properly fitting runners. But even in that state, this gentleman put his hand on his chest and refused the extras. He said, “Please, only buy me one set, and keep the cost to buy for someone else.” Once again, his incredible selflessness left us floored.

We also assisted a vulnerable young man who struggles with mental disabilities and has the mind of a child. It was physically visible just how ill and neglected he was. To give him some privacy and dignity, we brought him to the back of our van, gave him wipes to clean himself up and provided him with fresh underwear and a new tracksuit. It is absolutely heartbreaking to see people suffering like this.
These are just two of the stories we encounter every week and our work is only possible because of the community behind us.

With the current heatwave, we wish everyone a safe weekend ahead. As you enjoy the sunshine, please check in if you see someone sleeping rough. It doesn’t have to be money, offer a cup of tea, cold water, a quick chat, or clean socks.

Remember, we are all on a path in this life, and no one knows where we are going to end up.

Honoured to attend the inaugural Community Advisory Group meeting at the Chester Beatty this evening representing Muslim Sisters of Éire.

It was wonderful to meet people from such diverse backgrounds and communities, all coming together to discuss how museums and cultural spaces can become more inclusive, accessible, and community-centred.

Really encouraged to see a genuine commitment to listening to community voices and building meaningful partnerships. Looking forward to contributing to future conversations and initiatives that celebrate diversity, heritage, and belonging in Ireland.

Thank you to Katie Forsyth and the Chester Beatty team for the warm welcome and hospitality.

Our Youth Department organised a Sip and Paint afternoon this weekend with the senior members of our youth group. This space is so important for them to connect, spend time together, talk, reflect, and support one another.

They started with a blank canvas and simply let the brush do its work. We also had non-alcoholic mocktails and snacks, which added to the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

The vibe and energy in the room were beautiful. Well done to the Youth Department for creating such a meaningful space for our young people.

Absolutely honoured yesterday to be invited to the Garda Memorial Day — a day of reflection remembering the 90 Gardaí who, over the years, have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
It was a deeply moving tribute. Meeting many of the families who have lost loved ones in service was truly humbling.
A beautiful tribute given by Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly and Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan, including the laying of wreaths, moments of silence, and prayers from different faiths — a powerful reminder of unity, service, and sacrifice.
Our deepest condolences to all the families. Their strength and dignity will never be forgotten.

Tonight we supported 425 people on the streets. Tonight was quite warm. The need for sleeping bags, tents, and hygiene bags was huge, we brought 3 boxes of sleeping bags along with tents and hygiene packs, and every single one was gone.
What was especially heartbreaking tonight was the rise in women experiencing gender-based violence. So many young women were in difficult situations, some with visible bruises and injuries. It’s harrowing to think about what they’re going through. Everyone has a story, and we never judge, because nobody knows what’s around the corner for any of us.
What we do every Friday night is offer help, support, kindness, and helpline information to anyone who needs it. That’s what matters most to us as a charity and HSE soup run.
There were lots of children there tonight too, and the crowds were very heavy, but our amazing volunteers kept going despite everything, even facing abuse at times with nothing but patience and smiles.
We truly couldn’t do this without all of your support. If you’d like to donate, we’d really appreciate it. Have a lovely weekend. https://msoe.ie/donate/
