Intercultural Youth Society

Intercultural Youth Society The aim of the IYS is to provide a friendly, open-minded and racism free zone where young people from different cultural backgrounds can come together.

The Africa Centre is currently in the process of establishing an Intercultural Youth Society for all young people between the ages of 12 and 35. The aim of this youth society will be to provide a friendly, open-minded and racism free zone where young people from different cultural backgrounds can share, appreciate, teach and learn different aspects of one another’s cultures. To that purpose we are

going to have a discussion session about the African culture in early June and we will officially launch the IYS with a talent show on the 13th of July. If you are between 12 and 35, feel free to join the IYS group, suggest it to your friends or share it with them. The Africa Centre is really excited about this new project and the fact that it is going to benefit the youth of Ireland!! Please do not hesitate to submit any queries or suggestion!

Don't forget to submit your nominations for this years Kerry Garda Youth Achievement Awards.

The competition is open until the 29th May 2026 and is for young people between the ages of 13 and 21 years who have made a valuable contribution to their community, which can be in a voluntary capacity within their local area, within sporting organisations and schools.

There are 4 categories available for the nominations:
(1) Individual
(2) Group (2 or more people)
(3) Community Safety
(4) Special Achievement

One winner for each category will also go on to represent Kerry at the National Youth Awards later this year.

Chief Superintendent Colm O'Sullivan from the Kerry Garda Division says that "Today’s youth are tomorrow’s leaders. Their commitment to the communities that the Lee Strand Kerry Garda Youth Awards recognise and reward, is certainly indicative of their future roles in forming and maintaining a caring and thoughtful society in an ever changing world. Leadership is difficult, but the resilience of our youth is remarkable; their initiative, their willingness to get involved, their ability to adapt, to mentor and deliver, in and for their communities, bodes well for all our futures. The annual awards continue our role in An Garda Síochána in developing and maintaining strong relationships with our youth in Kerry. This recognition and co-operation has a positive effect on society and as a whole and I would like to extend our appreciation and thanks to Lee Strand for their continued sponsorship and support for these worthy awards."
