Building Safer Futures for Young Women 💛

In Dunda, Bagamoyo District, the cross-skills training course dedicated to young mothers continues, creating valuable moments of learning, sharing, and skills development.

As part of the training, participants were joined by a police officer who spoke about protection, gender-based violence, and how to recognise and report it.

These sessions help young women gain not only practical skills, but also knowledge, confidence, and support to build safer and stronger futures for themselves and their communities.

Celebrating National Volunteer Week 2026💛

This National Volunteer Week, APA is proud to celebrate some of the wonderful volunteers who give their time, energy, and kindness to support our work.

My name is Bridget Dowling, and I have been volunteering for APA Charity shop in Carlow for about 18 months. Apart from feeling like I’m helping a great cause, it’s been great for me, too. There’s a great feeling of community here, and the staff and other volunteers are great fun and just lovely people. Everyone pulls together, and we all believe in what we’re doing. It’s such a special place!!!

My name is Mopelola Abidemi Oguntowo, and I volunteer with APA because I enjoy being part of an organisation that supports people and brings the community together. Volunteering gives me the opportunity to contribute my time in a positive and meaningful way while helping others feel supported and included. I have been volunteering with APA for a while, and it has been a wonderful experience for me personally. Through volunteering, I have met new people, gained confidence, and improved my communication and teamwork skills. It has also helped me grow as a person and given me a strong sense of fulfilment and purpose. I truly appreciate
being part of APA and supporting its valuable work.

I'm Ionelia, and I have been volunteering with APA as a social media volunteer for a year and a half. I love being part of a charity that does such meaningful work and makes a real difference. Volunteering with APA gives me the chance to use my creativity to help share the charity’s message, celebrate our shops, and raise awareness of the wonderful work being done. Most of all, it has allowed me to be part of an amazing team of kind, dedicated people, and that makes the experience truly special and rewarding.

A heartfelt thank you to all our amazing APA volunteers. Your time, kindness, and dedication make such a difference.

📢 Domestic workers deserve fair and dignified conditions of employment.
In Tanzania, APA and CVM, together with the CHODAWU trade union, carry out training and awareness-raising activities on domestic workers’ rights.
Working alongside employers, government leaders, and local communities, these activities aim to promote lasting cultural change and greater recognition of domestic work.
Domestic work is one of the most widespread, yet often most vulnerable, forms of employment. Frequently carried out in private homes and away from public view, it can expose workers to exploitation, lack of protection, and limited awareness of their fundamental rights.
On May 1st, International Labour Day, APA and CVM, together with local partner CHODAWU Trade Union, took part in several events to promote a key message: domestic work is work like any other — deserving recognition, respect, and fair conditions.
Pictured are domestic workers supported by APA, marching during Labour Day celebrations.

Every child belongs in school 📚

In Ethiopia and Tanzania, APA and CVM work with local community groups to raise awareness of child labour in domestic work and help children access their right to learn.

In Chalinze, Tanzania, school campaigns bring together parents, community leaders and officials to discuss child rights, trafficking and the importance of education.

Together, we can help ensure children are in school💙

🌱Water Interventions in Southwest Ethiopia 💦
APA and CVM work in Ethiopia with interventions aimed at increasing access to drinking water, improving its quality and making it available for essential activities such as agriculture or personal hygiene.

Specifically, it implements:
💧Source protections
💧Hand wells
💧Gravity or deep well-fed aqueducts
💧Rainwater harvesting systems in schools
💧Low-waste irrigation systems
💧Training activities are essential to ensure sustainability in plant management.

During the rainy season it rains so much on the dry land that it causes land erosion
People from these areas would have migrated due to lack of drinking water, drought-stricken fields and long journeys carrying drinking water.
Better access to water and water for farming adds to a much better quality of life and therefore prevents migration. 💦🌱

Photos below show the working water systems and examples of dry land during dry season, land erosion and the community digging trenches and laying pipes in Southwest Ethiopia.
