The INTO is briefing TDs and Senators today to seek their pledges to support our call for 1,000 more primary school teachers in Budget 2027.

Funding 1,000 primary teachers — as an urgent response to the almost 1,000 mainstream teaching posts lost in recent years will:

• help reduce class sizes to the EU average of 19, down from Ireland’s current 23
• save many small schools from closure risks
• and allow more time for teaching and learning, with greater attention and inclusion for Ireland’s children.

We’ll have photos and updates coming for you across the day. #
