"There's a lot of waffle going on in Government [about pay deal negotiations], and that needs to be called out,” said INTO General Secretary John Boyle on Kfm Radio Kildare this morning. As he explains in this clip, an austerity mindset in the Government is still lingering on and contributing to delays in securing a fair pay deal for all public sector workers.

The INTO’s initial reaction to Budget 2027 was carried in our all-member e-newsletter which issued on Budget Day. Since then, we have received further details of the education budget.

After undertaking a further analysis, the union considers it utterly unacceptable and unforgivable that the Government has ignored our sustained, four-month-long campaign calling for 1,000 more primary teachers to be hired.

Our members will not forget this decision.

This session will offer guidance, understanding and practical strategies for teachers who have experienced loss themselves, or who are supporting pupils, parents, colleagues, friends or family members affected by loss.

The INTO notes the initial Budget 2027 announcement and General Secretary John Boyle’s immediate response has been sent to members in today's all-member e-newsletter.

“The INTO’s immediate reaction to Budget 2027 is one of fury and frustration with Government’s abysmal failure to address a multitude of challenges in primary education," said INTO General Secretary John Boyle. "In general, it is a feeble attempt at ‘people pleasing’ without substantive action!"

The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the INTO has today issued a new Directive to members to participate in two 24-hour strike days – on 14 October and 21 October.

INTO General Secretary John Boyle said:

"Minister Jack Chambers and the Government are now forcing us to take this next step with two strike days, and we will not back down in our legitimate demands for a fair pay deal. It’s clear from today’s Budget – and the paltry sum being set aside for public service pay and pensions in 2027 – that this is going to make this a long and bitter dispute.”

📢 INTO's message is being heard across the country.

As industrial action begins, INTO representatives have been speaking to local and national media outlets about the lack of progress on a new public service pay deal and the issues facing members.

District 13 CEC Representative Tracie Tobin joined Radio Kerry, while District 3 CEC Representative Áine McGinley spoke with Highland Radio.

Across the day, INTO General Secretary John Boyle, INTO President Brendan Horan, and CEC representatives have been active and vocal while giving interviews to RTÉ, Virgin Media, TG4 and radio stations nationwide.
