WIMPS Ballymun

WIMPS Ballymun We are a group of young people from Ballymun who are interested in getting involved in active citize

What Is WIMPS?
-WIMPS stands for "Where Is My Public Servant?". It is a project run by and for young people in the community. WIMPS was developed by a civic youth work organisation in Northern Ireland (Public Achievement) in 2004, with the aim to make politics more relevant to young people and to remind politicians that they work for us- the citizens. This is a space for young people to discuss an

d debate issues relevant to them. What Do We Want To Do?
- We aim to give young people the power to change and take charge on issues that they are passionate about. We campaign and bring our views directly to politicians and others, and therefore influence the decisions that affect our lives. How Do We Do This?
- We are all about taking action and doing what we feel need to be done to improve the society we live in. We will achieve this by taking action to make a change, and through engaging fellow young people in activities and workshops that will help them to develop skills and interests. These may include film making, journalism, campaigning, public speaking, and event management in order to raise awareness on issues that we are passionate about. A major example of one campaign that we held in BRYR was the Irish launch of Rock The Vote campaign in May 2015. We organised and hosted a live music/performance gig in the Reco and brought young people together to get them thinking about the importance of voting and how their voice can make a difference. This was particularly relevant as we voted on Marriage Equality in Ireland last May.
