It was a privilege to attend and contribute today at the 20th Imam Hussain Condolences Conference at Trinity College Dublin, in collaboration with the Ahlul Bayt Islamist Centre and the Irish School of Ecumenics. Interfaith dialogue is not about pretending that our religious traditions are identical. They are not.
It is about discovering how our different traditions can contribute to the common moral life of humanity. In Ireland, and particularly in our increasingly diverse cities, we have an opportunity to build communities where religious difference is not a source of fear, but a source of wisdom. The message of Hussain can contribute to that work. His example asks us to build bridges rather than walls; to protect the vulnerable rather than exploit them; to seek dialogue before division; and to place human dignity above political convenience.

Yesterday afternoon, The Irish Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament organised the commemoration of the 81st anniversary of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombing. Speakers reminded us of the sobering numbers of fatalities, pain, suffering and devastation on an unimaginable scale. The current global nuclear threat was highlighted along with reflections on Ireland’s neutrality and international disarmament treaties. The session closed with a wreath-laying ceremony, followed by a moment of silence and a renewed commitment to peace.

WHAT SHOULD CHANGE IN THE SAFETY PLANNING OF PLACES OF WORSHIP?

More than 200 participants took part in twelve PARTESS-COM capacity-building trainings across Europe between December 2025 and June 2026.

Their experiences identified recurring problems in the protection and preparedness of places of worship that cannot be addressed through technical security measures alone:

🔹 unclear procedures for unfamiliar incidents
🔹 lasting effects of harassment and other low-level incidents
🔹 insufficient consideration of women’s experiences
🔹 limited capacity among smaller places of worship
🔹 incidents that remain undocumented because they are handled internally

Field Note 2 sets out four practical directions: rehearse clear procedures, involve affected congregants in safety planning, direct support towards institutions with fewer resources and improve responses to incidents that do not fit established reporting categories.

Grateful and inspired after the very special Annual Interfaith Pilgrimage 2026. A heartfelt thank you to every participant for making it memorable, and to the organisers, Northern Ireland Interfaith Forum, Turas Columbanus and DCIF for their dedication and care.

We enjoyed the fabulous scenery along the Monaghan and Fermanagh border, the pristine forest and lakes, and the old churches and monuments steeped in history and legend. When our group walked together, shared stories and reflections from our diverse faith traditions, new friendships and connections were created.

Looking ahead, we’re already excited for the next pilgrimage in 2027! Until then, may the shared journeys we’ve started continue to inspire peace and understanding.

With only a couple of days left now there's still time to sign up and join in this special journey of friendship, reflection, dialogue, and shared discovery through the beautiful borderlands of Counties Fermanagh and Monaghan. This pilgrimage is about much more than the physical journey. It is an opportunity to meet people from different faith traditions and backgrounds, to share conversation and reflection, and to experience the beauty, history, and heritage of Ireland's borderlands together. Along the route, there will be opportunities to pause, reflect, and appreciate the landscape around us. All details in poster below!

Building safer places of worship requires more than isolated action. It requires cooperation, trust, and practical exchange.
