Meet Sierra Rose đź’•

Sierra Rose, lovingly known as “our little fighter,” was born at Rotunda Hospital at 34 weeks following a pregnancy complicated by IUGR, which was first identified at her 32-week anomaly scan. Throughout the pregnancy, her family were closely monitored with weekly scans to keep a careful watch on her growth and placental health.

When it became clear she wasn’t growing as expected, her medical team, including Dr. Alex Dakin and Dr. Fiona Cody, recommended steroid injections to help prepare her for an early arrival. However, due to reduced fetal movements, Sierra’s journey began with an emergency C-section.

After birth, she needed a little help with oxygen and received CPAP support, along with feeding assistance from the incredible NICU team. She spent two weeks in their expert care, surrounded by compassion, reassurance, and constant support for both Sierra and her family.

Her parents are deeply grateful to the doctors, nurses, lactation consultants, and physiotherapy teams who cared for them throughout their stay.

Now at just 7 months old, Sierra is thriving, reaching her milestones, and bringing joy every day to her family ❤️

Thank you to Sierra’s family for sharing her beautiful journey 💕

They spent 3–4 weeks in our NICU, where they received the very best specialist care from our incredible doctors and nurses, helping them grow stronger every day until they were ready to “graduate” and go home 💙

Now aged 3, Molly Mae & Ellie Anna are thriving, and their family continue to look back with deep gratitude for the support, kindness, and expertise shown throughout their journey.

Thank you to their mum Katie for sharing their story with us!

Carter was born in January 2019 at just 30 weeks, following complications with pre-eclampsia. After a brave early arrival, he spent 4 weeks in our NICU receiving the specialist care and support he needed to grow stronger every day.

During his stay, his mam, Cameron, was supported by the incredible NICU team, who cared for Carter with such dedication, compassion, and reassurance throughout their journey.

After those early weeks in hospital, Carter continued to thrive and is now a happy, healthy 7-year-old who is absolutely flying at home ✨

Thank you to Cameron for sharing Carter’s journey with us 💕

Baby Leila was born at 33 weeks on 13th November 2025 via emergency C-section, after her mum spent almost two weeks in hospital with severe preeclampsia.

Leila’s first days were spent in our NICU, where she received 11 days of specialist care from our incredible neonatal team. During this time, her parents were supported every step of the way by the dedicated nurses, doctors, and wider hospital staff who cared for both Leila and her mum✨

Her family would especially like to thank the midwives who supported her mum throughout her admission, Erin, Ciara, Katie, Lina, and Genevieve, as well as the wonderful nurses Ana and Diana, and the doctors Dr Claire and Dr Alexandra, along with all the staff behind the scenes including servers, cleaners, security, and administration teams.

Leila is now thriving at home, smiley, active, and full of personality, just like her dramatic entrance into the world ❤️

A heartfelt thank you to Leila’s family for sharing her journey with us.

We are so delighted to share this beautiful initiative from the Craft Crochet Club at Ballymakenny College, Drogheda đź’›

The students have been crocheting and knitting hats for premature and newborn babies at The Rotunda Hospital as part of their commitment to using their creativity and skills to support families in our care.

Alongside their handmade donations, they also shared some wonderful photos of the students in action, showing the care and dedication that has gone into every stitch 🧶✨

A heartfelt thank you to all of the students and teachers involved for thinking of our smallest patients and for this incredibly kind gesture. We are so grateful for your support and generosity.

Meet Seánie 💙

Seánie made his way into the world early, born at 32 weeks in April last year. He had a quick snuggle with his mam and dad before being brought over to the NICU as precious cargo, to the High Dependency Unit.

He was on CPAP for the first 24 hours and was treated for jaundice under the blue lights. With his little black mask on, he looked just like Batman, a real life superhero🦸‍♂️

He was tube fed for the first week, starting with tiny 3ml feeds and gradually building up to 40ml bottles as he grew stronger every day. From his incubator to a little cot in just a few days, he continued to make amazing progress.

Every day, his parents were supported and reassured by the incredible NICU team, who kept them updated on his progress and cared for him so beautifully throughout his stay. Leaving him in hospital after discharge was the hardest part, but they always knew he was in safe hands.

After two weeks in the NICU, Seánie rang the bell to mark his journey home at just 34 weeks gestation, a true little fighter✨

He recently celebrated his first birthday and is thriving at home. He is pictured here wearing one of our NICU grad onesies, a reminder of just how far he has come!

His parents, Laura and Denis, can’t thank the Rotunda staff enough, especially Dr. Mocanu, Dr. Daly and Dr. Kent, all the nursing staff on the Pre Labour Ward, and the wonderful NICU staff.

A huge thank you to Laura and Denis for sharing Seánie’s story💕

Charlie was born at 33 weeks in The Rotunda Hospital on 15th January 2026, weighing an incredible 6lb 6oz!

Although his due date wasn’t until 4th March, Charlie made his appearance early and spent his first two weeks in NICU, where he was cared for by an amazing team of nurses and staff. His mum shared how supportive and reassuring they were throughout their time there, helping them learn so much during those early days.

It was an emotional start to Charlie’s journey, but thanks to the dedicated care he received, he continued to grow stronger every day ✨

A heartfelt thank you to Charlie’s mum, Sheree, for sharing his story and kind words with us 💛

Tommy was born in The Rotunda Hospital on 28th April 2023. Throughout pregnancy, Tommy’s mum was closely supported by the midwives and cardiology team due to her own heart condition, with careful monitoring every step of the way. At 39 weeks, concerns around Tommy’s growth led to an induction, and he was later delivered via emergency c-section when his heart rate dropped.

It was an emotional and unforgettable moment for his family, followed by the relief of hearing his first cry đź’›

Tommy and his mum were cared for by a dedicated team of midwives, surgeons, and specialists, and received continued support from the Rotunda’s counselling service, which his mum attended until Tommy was one year old.

Now almost 3 years old, Tommy is full of personality, with the most contagious laugh and the very best cuddles.

A heartfelt thank you to his mum, Sidhbh, for sharing Tommy’s story and her kind words ✨
