Celebrating Heritage Week with some Peatland Restoration!

A huge thank you to Hugh McLindon, Andrea Webb and the entire team for the amazing work that they do restoring peatlands in the Wicklow Mountains. Climate Ambassadors joined volunteers from ReWild Wicklow and mountaineering clubs to build coir dams, lay hessian cloth and even do a little fencing.

This is always a highlight in our calendar year, to be able to work with NPWS, hike up these SAC areas, get stuck in, work with passionate people and a great sense of achievement once you see the peat dams in place.

NPWS and emergency services have been working hard battling raging wildfires which destroyed 66 hectares of land within the Wicklow Mountains National Park. The blanket bogs in the Wicklow Mountains can be difficult to access for machinery, so often it requires feet on the ground to do this restoration work.

Volunteer days run every Thursday and the 3rd Sunday of every month if you want to give it a try.
