🌍 Today is UN End Poverty Day — the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.

Our national theme calls us to action:

🏠 “Uniting communities to end poverty and guarantee everyone an adequate home.”

Today, above all, we honour the voices, courage and resilience of people experiencing poverty and homelessness.

Ending poverty means listening to those at the margins, recognising lived experience as expertise and working with people — not simply for them.

Everyone deserves dignity.
Everyone deserves to be heard.
Everyone deserves an adequate home. ❤️🏠

🕯️ There is courage in telling your story.

Speaking publicly about poverty, homelessness or exclusion can require enormous courage.

When someone shares that experience, our responsibility is not to judge or speak over them.

It is to listen, respect their testimony and ask what must change.

🫶 Community matters.

Ending poverty cannot be left to people experiencing poverty themselves, nor to charities or services alone.

It requires communities, policymakers, public bodies, civil society and people with lived experience working together.

🫶 Uniting communities means recognising that poverty concerns all of us.

ATD Ireland welcomes the increases in Budget 2027. However ATD is concerned that the continuing inadequacy of income supports cannot but increase levels of child and adult poverty in Ireland.

We need the figures. We need the research. We need the evidence.

But we must also hear the voices of people who know poverty and homelessness from lived experience.

Statistics tell us the scale. People tell us what it means.
