Introducing one of PHAI newest Board Members: John O'Connell

John brings a wealth of experience to the PHAI board, combining technical expertise with a passion for sustainable construction. A Chartered Engineer and Certified Passive House Designer, he holds a First-Class Honours Master's in Civil Engineering from NUI Galway and serves as Senior Contracts Manager at OCC Construction.

As Chairman of Engineers Ireland - West Region, John has been a strong advocate for Passive House principles, leading large-scale educational, residential, and medtech projects across Ireland. In 2023, he spearheaded the West Region’s first Passive House-certified multi-unit housing development, demonstrating his commitment to building excellence and energy efficiency.

PHAI is excited to have John’s leadership and vision helping to shape the future of high-performance buildings in Ireland! Welcome to the team, John!

Denim Day for Dementia 2025 – Wear Blue, Make a Difference 💙👖

On Friday, February 28th, join the The Alzheimer Society of Ireland in supporting dementia services by wearing denim and donating. Your small act can make a big impact, helping those affected by dementia and their families receive the care and support they need.

Did you know? Blue jeans, one of fashion’s most classic wardrobe staples, also happen to have one of fashion’s biggest environmental footprints - requiring massive amounts of water, dyes, and energy to produce. But there are sustainable ways to take part:
