Léargas We manage European and other international programmes in education, training, youth work and sport in Ireland.

Léargas is a not-for-profit organisation that operates under the aegis of the Department of Education and Skills and the Department of Children and Youth Affairs. Léargas manages European, national and international exchange and cooperation programmes in education, training and youth and community work and has been managing such programmes for over 30 years. Léargas currently has 40 staff based in

our Dublin office. Our staff come from Ireland, Poland, France, Croatia, Denmark and Spain and have wide-ranging experience in education, training, community, youth and development work; and in IT and finance. The National Centre for Guidance in Education operates under the aegis of Léargas.

As schools across Ireland prepare to welcome learners back to the classroom, we’re shining a light on how Erasmus+ can support more inclusive approaches to education.

Mount Sion CBS Secondary School is an inclusive secondary school that cater for a wide range of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
Through their Erasmus+ project, Meeting the Needs of All, school staff sought to gain valuable insights into inclusion, differentiation and special education by collaborating with partners in Spain.

Connecting with colleagues abroad had a profound impact on Mount Sion’s school community. The mobility improved teachers’ confidence and equipped them with skills to engage and support their diverse school community.

Their project shows how Erasmus+ supports staff in broadening their professional skills and, in turn, empowering their students to thrive.

In 2024, Portlaoise A.F.C became the first Irish soccer club to participate in an Erasmus+ Sport mobility.

With support from Léargas and the Laois Sports Partnership, they travelled to Antwerp, Belgium, to shadow a soccer club and learn from their coaching and organisational practises.

During their mobility, the coaches gained valuable insights into player retention, coaching development, and building stronger club communities.
