A Call out to families using AAC! 👆

📅 Deadline: 13th May
Submit your clip or photo via the link here: https://forms.monday.com/forms/ef29981a99b4fa542f231000fff6feb8?r=euc1

A communication board on the fridge, a picture communication book in a schoolbag, or a speech generating device at the dinner table: communication looks different in every home. And every form of communication is valid.

We welcome clips of both low‑tech and high‑tech AAC in use.
Authentic moments. Real life. Real communication.

Let’s show what equal access really looks like.
Let’s show the heart behind AAC.
💛 Different communication. Same Chance.

Hi Vanessa, my name is Holly Hughes, I’m a Research Assistant with the Family Genomics Research Group at Maynooth University.

We’re running a study called FamilySleeps, which explores the genetic link between autism and sleep. Sleep disruption can be a big challenge for many autistic children and their families, and through this research we hope to inform better supports and interventions.

I'm reaching out to ask permission to share information in the group that you admin, Tallaght Parents Autism Support Group. We’re hoping to reach families with children aged 6–10, to let them know this study exists so they can decide themselves if they'd like to learn more or take part. You can find more detailed information here: https://familysleeps.github.io/PIL/PIL.html

If you have any questions, I’d be very happy to answer them or share more details about the study and our research group.

Thanks for your time and consideration.

Earlier this year, an FOI from the amazing revealed that the State is spending €122k per day in South Dublin alone on transport for children with additional educational needs.

Children are being bussed out of their own areas to attend school at enormous cost - a human cost to them and their families and an enormous financial cost to the State.

I regularly hear from people in my own constituency of circumstances where buses are often cancelled at late notice - causing immense distress to children and families. There should be no need for these long commutes in the first place. Every child should have a school place in their own locality.

Earlier this year, Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil in Government voted down our Dáil motion to ensure every child would have a school place in their own area.

We need to hear from Government a clear plan of action to offer hope to parents and children currently being failed by the State.
