Today is , and what better day to kick off Maternal May at Ethiopiaid.

We’re celebrating the wonderful midwives and traditional birth attendants across Ethiopia. They go above and beyond, working through the night, often travelling across remote areas on foot, to deliver vital antenatal and postnatal care.

Thank you for making this life-saving work possible.

Ethiopiaid is proud to be launching The Lifetime Fund in memory of our founder, Sir Alec Reed CBE.

In Ethiopia, it is all too easy to be invisible. But with your support, we can change that.

The Lifetime Fund has been created to support our partners who work with people who are far too often unseen, unheard and forgotten.

A gift to The Lifetime Fund today will help:
• A child who would otherwise go hungry receive a nutritious breakfast and support to attend school
• Provide surgeries for women affected by fistula
• Support women and girls to receive education about harmful practices like FGM

Our goal is BOLD: to raise €100,000 in 2026 for The Lifetime Fund to help ensure no one is forgotten; not today, not tomorrow, and not for decades to come.

Give a gift today and find out more about The Lifetime Fund https://ethiopiaid.ie/the-lifetime-fund/

Building has begun! 👷

We’re so excited to share that building work on Atsede Clinic has started. Indie, midwife and co-founder of the clinic, wanted to share her appreciation and thanks to all who supported our Christmas Appeal.

Indie tells us "The diggers are in, the ground is broken, we are clearing the site and we're really excited to see the rebuild!"

Safe births in a clean, permanent environment will soon return to this community. Thank you!

Now that’s something to celebrate this International Women's Day.

Can you help protect girls from FGM?

Make your donation here: https://ethiopiaidie.enthuse.com/donate #!/

Our partner, APDA, train Women Extension Workers who work to educate families and communities about the dangers of FGM in the Afar region. These women are saving girls one by one. You can help make sure APDA's work continues by making a donation today.

1 in 5 girls in the Afar region will undergo FGM.

Today is International Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM. Despite being made illegal in Ethiopia in 2004, girls living in rural areas are still at risk.

Watch our short animation to find out how our local partners, APDA, are working on the ground in rural Afar to protect girls from this harmful practice.

We urgently need your help to rebuild, after the beloved Atsede Clinic was destroyed in a fire.

Since 2018, midwives Atsede and Indie have been working to ensure safe births and encourage women to make informed decisions about their childbirth in the Gurage region, southwest of Addis Ababa.

Filsu came to Atsede Clinic for the birth of her first child. Despite the temporary set up after the fire and the challenges the team are facing, they are continuing to provide life-saving care.

Anything you can give today will protect mothers and their newborns for generations to come AND BE MATCHED! Making your gift worth twice the amount!

Thank you.

A devastating fire has destroyed the beloved Atsede Maternity Clinic in south-west Ethiopia. Thankfully, no lives were lost - but urgent help is needed to rebuild.

As you read this, mothers are giving birth in temporary, hastily erected tents.

With €70,000, we can construct a new clinic, with women’s needs at the heart of it.

Thanks to a generous donor, your gift will be MATCHED this Christmas, making it worth twice as much!

Can you help reach our target this Christmas?

Melkam Addis Amet!

Today we celebrate the new year in Ethiopia. This date marks the end of heavy rains and the beginning of the harvest season.

From our partner, Hope of Light - “For our ancestors, it was a time to celebrate the fruits of their labour, assess their success, and prepare for the next cycle. Even though there have been some changes since the traditional agrarian ways, the symbolism of renewal and reflection is still alive.”

Keep an eye out for our New Year appeal next week and find out how you can help prevent cervical cancer in Ethiopia.
