Haddi has witnessed mothers and newborns die from preventable complications simply because help could not reach them in time.

Haddi is a Traditional Birth Attendant in a remote area of Afar – her community is already struggling through drought, severe food shortages and some mothers live days away from the nearest health centre.

Today, thanks to training from our partner, APDA, Haddi is equipped with safe birthing kits, maternal health training and support from local health workers.

A gift of €60 to our Emergency Appeal could help provide 45 safe delivery sets, so women like Haddi can continue to ensure each delivery is clean and safe.

Today is , and what better day to kick off Maternal May at Ethiopiaid.

We’re celebrating the wonderful midwives and traditional birth attendants across Ethiopia. They go above and beyond, working through the night, often travelling across remote areas on foot, to deliver vital antenatal and postnatal care.
