Not big teams. Not big budgets. Just people giving their time because they believe in the cause.

That’s the engine room of the Irish charity sector, and it’s worth remembering next time you think “charity” means a large, well-resourced organisation. For most, it really doesn’t.

Your organisation's values might appear prominently at the beginning of your annual report.

But can the reader see those values throughout it?

Show how you lived them.

Show what you did. Show how decisions were made. Show how your values influenced the way outcomes were achieved.

According to The Charities Regulator Ireland Annual Report 2025, there are now 11,466 charities on the Register of Charities in Ireland.

In 2025 alone:
➡️ 212 added
➡️ 190 190 removed/deregistered

That’s a sector that’s constantly evolving, with new causes emerging, others winding down or merging, but always thousands of organisations working for public benefit right across the country.
