Most boards and CEOs in the charity sector have positive working relationships, but when things go wrong, they can go badly wrong. The pressures of the Covid pandemic tested some of these relationships and served as a reminder that good working dynamics shouldn't be taken for granted.

Tomorrow is World Mental Health Day, and we want to highlight an important organisation doing vital work across the country.

Shine is a national charity that supports people with lived experience of mental illness, as well as their family members and supporters, offering understanding, community and practical support to those who need it most.

For over 40 years, Shine has been serving communities across Ireland, ensuring that no one affected by mental illness has to face it alone, that their experiences are met with compassion rather than judgement, and that recovery and support remain firmly on the agenda.

We've recently released the 17th edition of Carmichael's Governance Dilemma, where we look at a real-life challenge a nonprofit Board has faced and explore a range of responses.

This edition tackles the dilemma of what should a Board do when an AI-generated error makes its way into a funding application, and what does it reveal about oversight when AI becomes part of everyday work without a policy in place?

Thank you to our contributors Dr Orla Lenihan, Moninne Griffith, and Gráinne Madden for sharing their perspectives on transparency with funders, Board accountability for AI, and putting sensible safeguards in place without losing the benefits AI can bring.
