The first pillar of our strategy Courageous Conversations is 'Honouring Lived and Living Experience'.
A core part of this pillar is collaboration and coproduction with under-represented voices in our community. The Traveller Community experience some of the highest levels of inequality and su***de risk in Ireland, with su***de rates estimated to be up to six times higher than the general population. Young travellers are disproportionately impacted by poverty, social exclusion, early school leaving and barriers to accessing culturally appropriate mental health supports.
Our Traveller co-production group works with the Traveller Community. It includes Traveller representatives, people with lived & living experience, youth representation, Eden facilitators and community partners. Check out Willzee's video ‘Many Voices Same Thoughts’ which has helped to inform this work.
On Wednesday 27th May, Ireland's Strategy to Reduce Su***de and Self-Harm 2026 – 2035 was launched in the department of An Taoiseach by the Minister for Health, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill and Minister for Mental Health, Mary Butler. Honouring lived and living experience is a central guiding principle of the strategy and an emphasis on marginalised groups such as the Traveller Community.
