An IGI, Private Harry Clarke Viewing, Meet Up

The IGI organised with the National Gallery of Ireland a special meet up for it's members yesterday. We were treated to a private viewing of some of Harry Clarke's great original pieces in the Prints and Drawings Room, curated by Niamh MacNally.
Niamh spoke expertly on all things Clarke and illustration from that period, answering all are questions and telling insightful, humorous stories about the artist and more.

After this we met more of our members in the cafe and viewed the new, excellent exhibition " From Rembrandt to Matisse " on show in the Prints gallery. Well worth a look.

To finish a few of us enjoyed a glass of wine in the sunshine. A massive thank you to the National Gallery for hosting us and to Niamh MacNally for her time, knowledge and brilliant stories on all things Harry Clarke.

These IGI meet ups are a great way for our members to meet, enjoy art, have a laugh and forge a sense of community that will last for a long time to come.

DUBLIN COMIC ARTS FESTIVAL is this Sunday! Please join us at Bohemian FC (D07YXW0) from 11am to 5pm for talks from the fab comic creator (member of Illustrators Ireland) and wonderful , 60+ vendor tables full of indie comic art, FREE life drawing, a collaborative drawing table, coffee from Happy Out Coffee, and so many good DCAF vibes!

Karen Harte's debut graphic novel will be published on Thursday 2nd of July! "Effie is Offline" tells the story of Effie, the teenage daughter of a famous influencer family, whose entire life has been projected online - something she is NOT very happy about. When her parents split after a very public scandal, Effie's mam moves them to a sleepy seaside town, giving Effie a chance to reinvent herself... but can she really escape her online past? 

This is Karen's first author/illustrator project and Gill Books' first YA graphic novel (Suitable for ages 12+).

Eoghan Béal - illustrated by

For the past months, Darach Ó Scolaí and Alé Mercado have been working on Eoghan Béal, a new illustrated book for readers drawn to the darker edges of Irish medieval storytelling.
Darach has taken a brief and unsettling fragment from the Irish annals and transformed it into something strange, vivid, and deeply rooted in oral tradition.
Readers of his work will know the depth he brings to these worlds; his recent novel Bódléar received the Oireachtas Prize for Literary Fiction and multiple Irish-language Book of the Year awards. The scale and complexity of Eoghan Béal demanded a different approach to the artwork as well, pursued at times as if under possession by some old demon of vengeance, to follow the narrative of the book. The result is a book wholly satisfying in its final form. Alé reckons possession may yet become a useful part of the working process.

A huge WELCOME to our IGI / Alliance Française de Dublin COMIC BOOK FESTIVAL Fellow - Willow Caulfield !

Meet the Artists: Willow Caulfield (Ireland)
Willow Caulfield is an illustrator specialising in sgraffito influenced painting. Her materials of choice include ink, acrylic paint, Tipp Ex, watercolour, collage and oil pastel. Her work depicts the repetitive nature of everyday life through a series of layered materials that are carved back into. Willow is a graduate of the National College of Art & Design and Emily Carr University of Design with specialisms in poster design, editorial illustration and graphic novels.
She is the recipient of the inaugural Comic Book Festival Fellowship.
