Stalemate In The Derby 🔵⚪️
Big Game for The Blue Men on Friday night as we welcomed Castleknock Celtic to the AUL. The large crowd in attendance were not spared for action & excitement as both sides went toe to toe! 💥
Determined to put in a performance after last week, DC came flying out of the blocks. There seemed to be no answer to Boyler & Khaleed causing chaos aided by Ger & Martin on either side, while the rearguard cleared up any scraps. The breakthrough came just after 10’ with a clever free kick from Boyler that sailed into the far corner from a wide angle. The lads didn’t let up, and soon after a couple of DC misses Khaleed continued his goalscoring form with another finish - slotting home after a mazy run from Martin. This was much of the story for the first half with some nearly moments & a questionable offside goal for us. 2-0 as the halftime whistle went and in truth it should have been more.
As is football, the second half began with Castleknock flying out of the blocks this time and pushing for a way back into the game. The lads held firm and dug in, and nearly added to our tally on the break only for some brilliant defending and goalkeeping. Eventually Castleknock found the break through, and despite holding off the pressure again for a large period the equaliser came after a mix up with 5 minutes left.
2-2 and the points were shared. For us, while it’s disappointing to not take 3 points after such a dominant first half - there are plenty of positives to build on as we head in to a few weeks of big cup action ⚽️
On the night there were some smashing performances, with special mentions to a brilliant debut from Ger and our Blue Men MOTM Peter who was a colossus at the back all game.
