Our Challenge Cup Journey Ends 🏆

Classic cup tie Thursday evening, with the lads falling short after extra time in their pursuit of getting to the final!

One of those games where we feel we didn’t do ourselves justice and the opposition just performed better.

While the perfect start going 1-0 up through Josh so early, we never kicked on and Quarryvale had some great chances only to be kept at bay by Henry & luck. Then a blistering five minutes of good play from our front three, and we were 2-0 up (Aaron again) & had missed 2 1v1s. Quarryvale then got a deserved goal and so halftime came in at 2-1.

A scrappy second half ensued, with the game becoming an end to end affair. First another one v one for us was missed, before Quarryvale missed a couple of half chances. The tie was levelled and Quarryvale seemed to have momentum, but substitute Sam took matters into his own hands with a cracking header 3-2. A penalty then to bring the tie level, before the pressure from Quarryvale paid off with a 4th. Game set and match you would’ve thought … but again Sam bulleted a header in the 96th minute to make it 4-4 and bring extra time? (not before a goal line clearance from Patrick with effectively the last kick of the game).

The whistle to start again went, and all momentum shifted with a sending off for us right at the start. An already new back line had to be shifted around, and the dangerous Quarryvale attack took full advantage to clinically punish three times.

Best of luck to a top Quarryvale side in the final, and special mentions must go to Pauly & Dylan for two exceptional performances.

For us, with injuries and lads missing, extra time just proved a step too far. While not a performance we would look on fondly - the lads battled hard & gave it what they had. Blue Men MOTM would have to be Sam for taking the game by the scruff of the neck, with special mentions for Khaleed and Henry.

While we are disappointed to end the season falling just short of a treble, full credit must go to such a young group of blue men who brought home two cups this year. Last night will stand to us as we continue to grow 🔵⚪️

Wednesday’s Cup Win 🏆

(Finally getting to the Match Report from our Stephen Reid success during the week!)

Not the greatest preparation for a cup final with a combination of midweek game, early kick off time, and M50 chaos massively impacting players & warm up!

This pre kick off chaos seemed to follow us into the beginning of the game as we started slowly. Things not helped then when skipper JJ was carried off after ten minutes (hopefully a speedy recovery).

As the game moved on we began to find our feet, and a peach of an Aaron free kick midway through sailed over the keeper & into the net to give us a narrow lead at halftime.

A bit of a rousing talking to at halftime, and we came out flying in the second half. Aaron completing his hat trick, Josh helping himself to 4 assists while Sam & Dima came on to both grab goals. Job done ✅

A squad performance with all five subs being used on the night, and everyone across the park from H up to the lads up top contributing to the win, with a clean sheet & five goals.

Blue Men MOTM was Aaron. But special shout out as well to Khaleed who was monstrous from minute 1 to 90 🔵⚪️

Commiserations to Moldova who have given us some great matches this season, not least this final, and who were magnanimous in defeat. A class outfit who we wish all the best to 🤝

Finally, and most importantly, it was special for us to be able to take part in a minutes silence before the game for a great friend to our club the late Tony Cosgrave. This game a fitting tribute to a true legend of the AUL. A proper football gentleman who gave so much to the game. We send prayers and support from all our blue men family to Tony’s family & his colleagues in the AUL at this tough time 💙

5 Star Blue Men Performance 🔵⚪️

Another cup final on the horizon.

With a squad already ravaged with injuries, we had some issues for key players in last week’s challenge 1/4 final and then lost our skips in the warm up this evening. Not the ideal preparation, but DC seemed to miss that script!

A new look backline led by Sean Whelan was solid, while the attacking play of our front 5 was excellent - with Khaleed,Aaron and Josh all helping themselves to goals, before substitute Sam had his say as well ⚽️

Hard to name a MOTM tonight with strong performances from the squad. Well done to all in a blue jersey.

We now regroup to see who we face in the semi final of the challenge cup and final of the Stephen Reid 🏆

Into The Semis 🏆

Great result in the 1/4 final yesterday evening against a strong St Marks side. Really big showing from the entire squad on the night 💪

The blue men showed their class in attack and defence. Racing into a 3-0 lead before halftime, and then seeing the second half out with a clean sheet!

While everyone deserves a mention, special shouts to Job, Finn, Aaron and Khaleed who were unplayable at times. Blue Men MOTM however was Henry who didn’t put a foot wrong all night 🔵⚪️

Sadly however the blue men lost one of our standout players this season Dima to a horrific ankle injury in the first half (he was in the middle of yet another excellent performance). Having gone to the hospital on the night everyone at the club wishes him well & is right behind him for every step of his recovery 💙
