Aoibheann’s Pink Tie.
For sixteen years we have dedicated our lives to helping children and their families in childhood cancer treatment. The reason for this organisation is the beautiful child in this photograph. Her name is Aoibheann Norman and we as her family will always remember her as AVO❤️ Aoibheann was diagnosed with stage four cancer on the twenty second of January 2009. Aoibheann was only seven years of age with an extremely rare form of cancer. The seed of this charity this family, was planted on witnessing the devastating impact that a child diagnosed with cancer has on a family. We started with nothing and I believe that is what has helped us through so much adversity.
But over the last six months Deirdre and myself have become far more involved with the social workers and nursing staff of the hospitals in the frontline of childhood cancer.
It has been an absolute revelation that for everyone in Aoibheann’s charity has been so moved by. In meetings and phone calls over the last six months with all of the teams supporting the families and children suffering cancer.
One message has resonated with such clarity, it is a message we hear constantly as a team.
The message is that Aoibheann’s Pink Tie is an essential resource to the families in treatment. To us this is hard to contemplate, we started this journey in the hope of helping as much as we could. But the message that Aoibheann’s Pink Tie is essential is one that truly means more to us than anyone could imagine. We are about to undertake a new initiative, one we believe will help so many so much more. But I look at my little girl and all I wish is that she was with me now. I wish I knew nothing about childhood cancer, sadly I do. Aoibheann’s suffering stopped six days before her ninth birthday. Her family’s suffering never ended. But Aoibheann Norman meant something, her life as all children is precious. My time will pass that page turned. But now I will find peace in the wonder that to children suffering the blight of this darkness. The charity she inspired and guided guarded over is now Essential. I believe that she might be happy with this. But I do not believe she will ever stop looking after all of the children. I know she never will 🎗️
