📱If you’re happy to access your membership digitally, you can also choose to stop receiving a printed membership card.

It’s a simple change that helps us reduce the amount of paper and plastic we use — and means one less card for you to keep track of. ♻️

How do I opt out of the printed card?
It only takes a few steps:

✅ Log in to your membership account.
✅ Go to My Details and select the Membership Card tab.
✅ Click Personal Details.
✅ Untick the option to receive a physical membership card.
✅ Click Update to save your choice.

That’s it! Your membership details will still be available digitally whenever you need them.
👣 The more members who choose digital-only, the more we can reduce unnecessary paper and plastic together.

🌿 Celebrating 20 Years of the PURE Project!

Many will be aware of thePureproject and its work to address litter and illegal dumping in the Wicklow/Dublin Uplands.

The PURE Project recently celebrated its 20th birthday with a bumper PURE Mile Awards Night in Macreddin Village! 🎉

It was fantastic to see so many Mountaineering Ireland clubs acknowledged for their work to clean up roadsides in the Wicklow and Dublin uplands. 👏

📣 September Club Highlight — meet Gilford Youth Climbing Club!

From four families with an idea to a community of around 70 members — GYCC has come a long way since 2018! 🙌

The club began when a small group of families saw the potential of Gilford Climbing Wall and wanted to give their children the opportunity to experience climbing. With support from a youth development officer, the club was established under Mountaineering Ireland — and climbing skills have been growing ever since.

🧗 In the early days, instructors joined every club evening to help families learn the basics of climbing technique and safety. Since then, parents have developed their skills through training in everything from belaying and climbing fundamentals to lead climbing and anchor building.

It’s been brilliant to see the young climbers progress too. Two juniors have gone on to complete instructor training at Tollymore and are now putting those qualifications to use in part-time work alongside their studies, while two current junior members attend the youth development squad at Boulder World Belfast Climbing. 👏

⛰️ And the adventures aren’t confined to the climbing wall! The club has enjoyed climbing at Altnadue Quarry and Spellack Slabs, hiking and bouldering in the Mournes, as well as weekends filled with sea safaris, wild swimming, campfires and games.

🏕️ Most recently, around 50 members came together for the annual camping trip at Gortatole Outdoor Education Centre. A day on Thúr Mountain gave many of the young climbers their first experience of outdoor bouldering — learning how to top out before getting stuck into some climbs.

From those first evenings learning the ropes to young members developing their skills on real rock, it’s great to see how this club has grown. 💚
