Summer seems to have arrived briefly to give us a taste of what is can be. Many people living with migraine find it difficult when the heat and light begin to increase so here are some pointers and a little advice on how to manage and cope with heat when you live with migraine. See website article here: https://migraine.ie/how-to-manage-migraine-in-hot-weather/

Today is both International Redhead Day and Day. To celebrate, as a myself, I thought we would explore some of the myths surrounding us. Personally my favourite is the one from South Park where each freckle represents a soul I took, but I digress! We redheads are unfortunate to have skin and eyes that are very sensitive to sunlight, heat and all the nice summery stuff, but when you're a redheaded migraineur it can be pure hell! The gene that give us our gorgeous copper locks also provides us with one of the weirdest pain thresholds on the planet. So helping us with pain can be awkward to say the least.

Now about the Vampire thing. Redheads have been much maligned throughout history. The Victorians were particularly afraid of us, but some of it stems from the Vampire legends of places like ancient Greece, other Balkan Countries where people with Red Hair were unusual, and because we were so badly affected by sunlight, we were naturally associated with the vampire myths. In Greece we were Vrykolokas, in Albania Shtirga, even in Scotland we were Baobhan Sith. We were also known as Judas Kin (some believe Judas was the first Vampire and was a redhead) and Children of Lilith (Adam from the Bible's first wife who refused to be inferior to him, so she got kicked out and he got the nice compliant Eve instead. Lilith was turned into a demon and of course had red hair.) All of which if you pardon me saying is enough to trigger a migraine attack in any Red Head!!

Today is World Africa Day!

According to research, an estimated approximately 56 million people on the African Continent live with the burden of Migraine. Unfortunately, like on most other continents it is underreported and women are disproportionately affected, with many from rural communities receiving no help at all. There are some really excellent organisations across who are bringing information and knowledge to the fore. One such organisation is Migraine Outreach https://lnkd.in/dtG-VfwX They hold events, webinars, podcasts, etc so if you are in an African country whether visiting or resident, check them out, they may be able to help you.

Also, a few years back we had a neurologist Dr Ian Weinberg who not only treats migraine, but lives with it, do a talk for us from his office in . The video is here https://lnkd.in/d68ds9wq

Clutching at straws this is! Today also is 'talk like Yoda' day. A major theme in Star Wars is not, however, with Migraine many Jedi and Sith do live. A diary you should keep. Help identify your symptoms it can. Name it you must, or treat it you cannot. 😉😉

Migraine Ireland you should email; a diary we will post. No Jedi mind tricks please, Force Sensitive we are not!

Today is International Tea Day. Let me hear a collective ‘thank you’ to the people of and !!

will have her best tea cosy out today with a happy 'Tea father?' to greet Ted, Jack and Dougal!! As Mrs. Doyle and the rest of us know, tea solves all problems.

Some teas, depending on their levels of sulphites and tannins are regarded by some with migraine as triggers however, many teas have curative properties. Peppermint, Ginger, Lavender, lemon (if citrus is not a trigger), can all be helpful in dealing with some migraine symptoms.

To be honest, I'm not a big fan of anything that buzzes, or indeed anything small with more than four legs, however, I am fond of . I prefer the big fat cuddly Bumble Bees, but the Honey Bees are probably the most important of all Bee species. However, all species of Bees pollinate in various ways.

Did you know? In Ireland there are over 100 species of Bee and that they are worth an estimated €53 million to the Irish economy? https://pollinators.ie/record-pollinators/bees/

Bees may also benefit us in other ways. Honey for example contains antioxidants that can help to reduce inflammation, and there are more and more studies on the therapeutics effects of Bee Venom, including for . These however are in the very early stages and not proven yet, with most experiments still done on poor little mice, so don't go getting yourself stung to see if it will stop an attack. There are also some serious risks involved in Bee Venom Therapy.

Regardless of how we feel about these buzzy little pollinators, they are essential for life on this planet, and we need them. In-keeping with this year's theme "Bee Together, for People and the Planet - A partnership that sustains us all"

Today is Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Day. The paramedics, EMTs, 999 operators, doctors, nurses, and all those who respond to our 999/112 calls deserve to be respected for the help they give during an emergency.

We would rarely if ever consider calling the emergency services for a migraine attack however there are some circumstances in which it might be a good idea, and they include; if a migraine attack involves sudden, severe "thunderclap" pain, weakness/paralysis on one side, slurred speech, confusion. Remember to always have yourself checked by a doctor if your migraine symptoms change.

Say 'Hello' to someone and ask 'How are you?' today.

Children can find it particularly difficult to express emotions, especially if they're worried about something, so play therapy, and other types of therapy can help them to cope with a frightening or an intense experience. They can quickly become overwhelmed by emotions and on the end, they may shut down and back away from life in general.

Small activities that help them to express themselves and face their emotions can be well worth it. It doesn't have to be anything big, just something like the puzzle below can be helpful.
