Youth Work just wrapped up an incredible Summer at the Y packed with creative expression, exciting adventures, and unforgettable memories. 🌟

Our Balgaddy group tried different kinds of bikes at Collinstown Sports Centre, bounced through Jumpzone, and learned about animals at Dublin Zoo. Parkside had an epic day out at Emerald Park, conquering Go Quest and the Cú Chulainn rollercoaster.

Alongside these trips, our young people let their talents shine across drama, singing, and visual art! Young people gathered at the Aungier Street Singing Social to showcase their musical skills. Our Parkside & De Verdon Place group partnered with DCC Arts Youth to rehearse and perform the panto Aladino. In Balgaddy creativity flourished as young people painted canvasses, made clay sculptures, and tie-dyed t-shirts and bags.

Parkside brought Summer at the Y to a close with a celebration at the hub, sharing pizza, and saying a fond goodbye to our wonderful volunteer from Italy.

Programs like these do so much more than fill summer days, they support young people in building confidence and forming friendships, in a safe environment.

None of this would be possible without the dedication, energy, and heart of our incredible Youth Workers and volunteers. Thank you for making Summer at the Y such a glowing success!

Last weekend, children, families and residents came together for Balgaddy Family Fun Day—one of the first large community events since YMCA Dublin began operating Balgaddy, Neilstown and Rowlagh Community Centres in North Clondalkin.

The day brought a wide range of activities to Balgaddy Community Centre and the surrounding area. At the centre, visitors took part in planting workshops and dance activities, with food provided by Food Cloud, while the wider event offered plenty more for people of all ages to enjoy.

As part of the organising committee, YMCA Dublin was pleased to work alongside local partners, including South Dublin County Council, to bring the day together. The Mayor of South Dublin, Councillor Francis Timmons also joined the event and addressed those attending.

The day was a valuable opportunity for our team to meet local families, build relationships and learn more about what people would like to see at the centre and in the wider community.

As our work in Balgaddy develops, we look forward to working alongside the community to support the centre as a welcoming, accessible place where people can connect, take part and help shape what happens there.

Over the past week, Summer at the Y gave young people opportunities to challenge themselves physically, contribute their own ideas, try new things and share experiences with others ✨

Across our locations, this took many different forms. Young people climbed and ziplined through Tibradden Wood, tried tennis and yoga during a community day, and reflected on what helps people feel connected to their community. Others explored the history of Kilmainham Gaol, travelled to Belfast or took part in creative and team-based challenges.

While each group’s programme looked different, the purpose was shared: creating supportive spaces where young people can participate, connect, and make the most of their summer together.

Over the past year, HP Ireland has become a valued partner of YMCA Dublin, supporting the development of our work and helping us reach more people in more communities.

In that time, the HP team has raised an incredible €7,808 in support of YMCA Dublin.

Jodi and Emmet have been central to the partnership, bringing care, commitment and enthusiasm throughout the year. Alongside leading the fundraising effort, they have taken the time to understand and champion our work, helping to build a strong relationship between our organisations.

We are grateful for the support of everyone at HP and look forward to continue building on what we have achieved together🙏

Over the past week, children at our Aungier Street and De Verdon Place summer camps have enjoyed a varied mix of creative activities, local visits and time outdoors 🚂🖼

At Aungier Street, we engaged with art and nature before heading out for visits to a museum and St Patrick’s Cathedral. The De Verdon Place group enjoyed a cinema visit and spent a day out in Malahide, taking the T***s train from Malahide Park to the beach before returning to the playground.

From hands-on activities and visits to local landmarks to a day by the coast, the week gave children plenty to discover and enjoy with friends ☀

We’re recruiting an After-School Area Manager to oversee YMCA Dublin’s after-school services across Parkside, De Verdon Place and Citywest.

Based at Parkside, the role will lead and support teams across all 3 community hubs, helping to ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality services for children and families.

We’re looking for an experienced childcare professional with strong leadership and people-management skills and a commitment to creating safe, engaging and supportive environments for children.

Summer at the Y is in full swing, with another varied week of youth activity across our community hubs ☀️

The sunshine shaped much of the week for our Parkside and De Verdon Place group, with plenty of time outdoors, a trip to the beach and a cycle and stroll ending with a picnic. The older group also headed into the city to visit the National Wax Museum.

At Aungier Street, young people put their teamwork and competitive spirit to the test through a scavenger hunt, a pizza-making competition and challenges at GoQuest. There was also time to relax with a movie evening and foam printing at Richmond Barracks.

By bringing together a mix of outings, creative activities and time to relax, Summer at the Y helps young people stay active and engaged, spend time with other young people from their community and make the most of the school break.

We were delighted to join the Belmayne Community Group at the Mansion House yesterday for the launch of TASC’s report on the Belmayne Social Inclusion Voting Campaign.

The report captures important learning from a community-led effort to strengthen participation and improve engagement between local residents and elected representatives. Hearing directly from local community members reinforced how important it is that people feel informed, represented and able to have a say in the decisions affecting their communities.

Congratulations to Michelle McGoldrick, the Belmayne Community Group, TASC and everyone involved in bringing this important work forward!
