Our librarian Dr. Orla Fitzpatrick chats about a lovely find from our Austin Clarke collection - Ferdinand Levy’s ‘Flashes from the Dark’.

While Ferdinand may have been the first black poet published in Ireland he thankfully is far from the last, and we are delighted to be celebrating black writers at our Black History Month Celebration with next week!

Our Seamus Heaney collection includes several books by the newly announced Nobel Laureate, Anne Carson. 📚🏆

In January 1998, the Knopf editor, Amy Scheibe, sent him an uncorrected proof of Carson’s novel in verse ‘Autobiography of Red’ writing that ‘with this book we have a chance to break Anne out to a much wider audience.’ Safe to say that has certainly been achieved!

Other titles owned by Heaney include Glass, Irony and God (New York: New Directions, 1995) and If Not, Winter: Fragments of Sappho (New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 2002).

We are delighted to see another brilliant poet awarded the Nobel Prize! 🖋✨

We are absolutely delighted to be involved with five events as part of Dublin Book Festival this year! 📚📖

✨At No. 11 Parnell Square we are excited to host two nights of our Introductions / Céadlínte Showcase where you can hear from some of the best up and coming poets in the biz!

✨On Thursday it is also our great honour to host Mark Roper, recipient of the Lawrence O'Shaughnessy Award this year for a reading, and on Friday we are delighted to host author and playwright Rosaleen McDonagh for a discussion on her debut novel 'Contentious Spaces.'

✨Through our partnership scheme we are thrilled to support Skein Press for their event in Instituto Cervantes on the Poetics of Lesser-Known Languages.

Circling the Square Festival has emerged and grown into one of the country's most enjoyable, prestigious and impactful poetry festivals in recent years. 🔴⬛

Commemorating the great poet and man of letters Dennis O'Driscoll (1954-2012), this fifth annual Thurles festival presents fabulous poetry and music in equal measures. ✨

Located in The Source Arts Centre and other Thurles venues it all happens on weekend 16th - 18th October. Tickets for the two Saturday Source events on www.thesourceartscentre.ie . Other free events in Bookworm Bookshop and The Monks / O'Gorman's Pub.
