The IntNSA vision is: 'To be a global leader in addictions nursing'

The IntNSA mission statement is: 'To advance excellence in nursing care for the prevention and treatment of addictions for diverse populations across all practice settings through advocacy, collaboration, education, research and policy development.'

The Irish organization shall be known as the Ireland Chapter of the International Nurses Society on Addictions. The purpose of the Chapter shall be to support the mission and vision of IntNSA and promote quality-nursing care for those affected by high risk substance misuse. It will serve as a meeting ground for nurses that are interested in the problem of addiction in order that they may enhance their knowledge, advance their skills, and continue their education. We welcome the opportunity to work with other organisations and individuals who share our objectives. Active membership shall be open to registered professional nurses who are concerned with or engaged in the practice of addictions nursing. Active members may vote and hold office in the Ireland Chapter. Associated membership shall be open to persons other than registered professional nurses who are concerned with or engaged in the practice of managing high risk substance misuse. Associate members may not vote or hold elective office. The Ireland Chapter of IntNSA welcomes the opportunity to contribute to the wider debate on drugs policy and also to contribute to innovation and best practice in substance misuse treatment services. We also welcome the opportunity to work with you in future.

From Practice to the Podium, your work in addictions care deserves a global stage.

The International Nurses Society on Addictions (IntNSA) is now accepting abstract submissions for our 2027 Conference in Dublin, Ireland (15–17 June 2027)!

We are bringing together nurses, researchers, educators, policymakers, practitioners, and individuals with living and lived experience to advance evidence-informed approaches in addictions care.

We invite submissions across 5 key sub-themes:
* Challenging Stigma & Discrimination in Underserved Communities
* Innovations in Evidence-Informed Practice
* Equity in Policy and Advocacy
* Lived Experience Leadership
* Strengthening Workforce Knowledge & Competencies

Presentation Formats:
* Oral Presentations (20 mins)
* Poster Presentations
* Symposia / Panel Discussions (50 mins)
* Interactive Workshops (50 mins)

Marginalised people and society suffer further punishment as a result

There are no addiction nurses employed by the Irish Prison Service despite an estimated 4,000 prisoners suffering from addiction issues. To discuss this situation further Ciara spoke to the Irish Penal Reform Trust Executive Director Saoirse Brady.

Guess who has had four big pieces of great news today at the IntNSA annual Educational conference in Seattle, USA? The Ireland chapter has won chapter of the year 2026, exactly ten years after we last won...the 1st ever IntNSA educational conference outside of North America will be coming to Dublin next year.... our own Professor Catherine Comiskey has won the IntNSA spirit award, while our chapter president Philip James won the rising leader of the year award.
