Dublin Taxidrivers Special Childrens Outing - DTSCO
Welcome to our page.
The DTSCO was founded in 1960.The first day out was to Red Island in Skerries as a result of a driver meeting the parent of a special needs child and deciding to do something positive for her child and others. The day has grown year after year to what is now the highlight of the taxi industry year.
The taxi drivers associated with the day are very proud of the day and happy to be part of the event. Our aim is to bring smiles to everybody involved. We can never have enough taxis on the day as the more taxis we have the more children we can take. So if you can spare a few hours for one day a year why not contact us. Behind the scenes we have a very dedicated team of volunteers to make it all happen, the drivers even cook the food.
We aim to have the day annually in September. The children are collected from schools, hospitals and homes around the city and brought to Parnell Square. The Garda Band and a DJ is on hand to provide entertainment for our street party. Everyone receives a goodie bag and t shirt. At midday with the help of the Garda Band and our vip guests we parade down O Connell Street and then its a convoy to Leopardstown Racecourse escorted by Garda outriders. At the racecourse the party really begins with more entertainment, food and lots of goodies for the kids. When everyone is partied out they are brought back by the drivers for a well earned rest. And look forward to next year. For many of the children its the highlight of their year.
