A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our IJA Conversation Groups Summer Meetup on 22nd August in Dublin! It was such a pleasure to meet so many of you in person and enjoy all the wonderful conversations together. ๐Ÿ˜โœจ

This time, we talked about our favourite foods, home cooking, recipes and restaurants, shared cooking ideas and recommendations, and exchanged stories about our favourite dining experiences.

The IJA Japanese Conversation Group will resume its online Zoom meetings next month, with the first session taking place on Tuesday, 8th September.

And weโ€™re already looking forward to seeing everyone again at our next in-person meetup on Saturday, 21st November!

A huge thanks to our Council members, Azumi Uchitani Art and Yuka Nagano, for organising this event, as well as to the wonderful hosts at The Commons at MoLI / Museum of Literature Ireland for their warm hospitality.

On 31 July, members of the IJA Council were honoured to attend the official presentation ceremony for the Foreign Ministerโ€™s Commendation at the residence of the Ambassador of Japan to Ireland. ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช

The commendation, awarded to the IJA in 2025, was formally presented to IJA Chairperson Raymond Hegarty, followed by speeches from H.E. Mr Manabu Miyagawa, Ambassador of Japan to Ireland, and Raymond Hegarty.

It is a great honour for the IJA to receive this prestigious recognition, acknowledging the Associationโ€™s longstanding work in supporting economic cooperation and trade links between Ireland and Japan, alongside our cultural, educational and community programmes.

The IJA Council is grateful for this recognition and looks forward to continuing our work to strengthen the connections between Ireland and Japan, particularly as we look ahead to the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2027.

Our sincere thanks to the Embassy of Japan in Ireland for this honour and for its continued support and partnership throughout the years.

What a wonderful way to begin the month of July! ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต The Ireland Japan Association was delighted to host two Origami Workshops for families together with our friends at Pearse Street Library, Dublin. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us!

Led by our fantastic and talented origami teacher, Akiko Kidokoro, children enjoyed discovering Japanese culture and traditions through the beautiful art of origami, learning new folding techniques and creating colourful paper shapes and objects.

Our thanks go to Akiko san for her wonderful presentation, and to the staff at Pearse Street Library for being such welcoming hosts and helping to make the day such a success. A special thank you also goes to Maria Mardiki, IJA Council, for all of her support in helping bring this wonderful community event to life.

At the end of June, Raymond Hegarty, Chairperson of the Ireland Japan Association, was delighted to attend the 2026 JET Programme Ireland Pre-departure Orientation and Farewell Reception, kindly hosted by Ambassador Manabu Miyagawa and the Embassy of Japan in Ireland. ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿค๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต

Raymond Hegarty met with this year's JET participants and wished them well as they prepare to embark on an exciting new chapter in Japan.

Congratulations to Isabelle Emily Bates, recipient of the 2026 Ushioda Scholarship! On 25th June, the Ireland Japan Association was delighted to celebrate Isabelle's outstanding achievement at the 2026 Ushioda Scholarship Award Ceremony in Dublin. ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต

The ceremony opened with welcome words from Peter Vambeck, Director of Investment at Fitzwilliam Capital, and Raymond Hegarty, Chairperson of the Ireland Japan Association.

We were honoured to welcome H.E. Mr. Manabu Miyagawa, Ambassador of Japan to Ireland, and Mrs Miyagawa, together with members of the Ushioda family and other invited guests, who joined us in celebrating this special occasion.

We wish Isabelle every success as she prepares to begin the next chapter of her journey at Rikkyo University, Tokyo, and hope that her time in Japan will be an inspiring and unforgettable experience.

Our sincere thanks go to Paula Kelly, Ushioda Scholarship Coordinator, for all of her dedication and support in coordinating this year's scholarship programme and to our Corporate Member, Fitzwilliam Capital, for kindly hosting the award ceremony.
