Order of Malta Ireland

Order of Malta Ireland Founded in 1938, Order of Malta Ireland is a voluntary organisation serving communities and reaching out to the most vulnerable and disadvantaged.

The Order of Malta Ireland is part of an International Organisation working in over 120 countries, with a heritage stretching all the way back to the Knights Hospitallers who were brought to Ireland in 1174 whose mission was to 'serve the sick and the poor'. In 1934 the Irish Association or the Order of Malta Ireland was established and four years later in Galway in 1938, we launched the first

Order of Malta Ambulance Corps providing first aid, ambulance and casualty services to the local community.

Updates from a continued busy week in . The Hospitallier John Wright, KMOb and the National Director Comdr. Brian Coote, KM met with the President of the Region of West Ukraine through whose office the work of the Order of Malta efforts in the region are coordinated. They also visited a Hero Cemetery to pay our respects and witness of the true cost of war and had the pleasure of meeting a real life Hero of Ukraine who was honoured with a hero medal from President Zolensky.

The team were also deeply privileged to be part of bringing even a little respite or smile to children who have lost their fathers, homes, and moved to the other side of Ukraine with nothing in the hope of safety.

This is all part of the Order of Malta's international humanitarian commitment serving the sick and poor. To find out more or to donate visit:

The team in are not the only ones on international missions at the moment. Two of our volunteers the Hospitallier John Wright, KMOb and the National Director Comdr. Brian Coote, KM have travelled to this week.

They, along with colleagues from Order of Malta Romania have travelled to Kamianets-Podilskyi in western Ukraine, to assist the ongoing humanitarian mission in the region. During they week they will assist with an initiative comprising of a mobile playground along with a mobile kitchen and other facilities which travels to settlements in the area where mothers with children and the elderly who had previously been living on or near the frontline near Donbask and Kharkiv of the war are now being temporaily housed, often in improvised shelters. Many have lost everything including fathers, sons and husbands. The programme is designed to bring support, dignity and hope providing fresh meals, essential supplies and some joyful activities for children and communities displaced by war as they rebuild their confidence and lives.

Today they met with Ukrainian colleagues to offer support and solidarity from all in Order of Malta Ireland.

Not only are our busy all over the country this weekend but also overseas.

Currently four of our volunteers are in Vilnius, the "City of Mercy," providing medical support along with other Order of Malta colleagues during the the 6th World Apostolic Congress on Mercy (WACOM). Two additional volunteers will arrive this evening.

During the next few days they will ensure the thousands of international pilgrims have a safe and healthy experience by providing rapid medical support and compassionate care, putting the Congress's message of mercy into practical action.

This will be a great week for international collaboration along with our colleagues form Germany (Malteser in Deutschland), Poland (Fundacja Pomoc Maltańska - Maltańska Służba Medyczna), Romania (Serviciul de Ajutor Maltez Baia Mare) Lithuania (Maltos ordino pagalbos tarnyba - maltiečiai) and we will have more updates throughout the week!
