Blanchardstown is a linear village, bounded by the Royal Canal at it's southern end, the Tolka river to the east the "new" Garda station to the north, and Roselawn and other housing estates to the west. We meet at 10am every Saturday in the carpark of Cro
sscare on the Main Street. All are welcome as volunteers to assist with planting, weeding, litter picking and general maintenance of the village environs. From April we also meet every Wednesday at 7pm in the same venue. Other themes of our work include promoting biodiversity in our green spaces, promoting heritage and preserving the village as a conservation area (particularly around St Brigid's church and Church Avenue), active travel via our walks and trails, collaborating with local schools and community groups and generally improving the environment for residents, businesses and visitors. We are mostly funded by grants and donations. We apply funding for from Tidy Towns Ireland and Fingal Council, and look for donations from companies and members of the public. Working closely with Fingal Council, and this year. 2024, held a concert to celebrate St Brigid which was attended by over 200 people. Money raised was donated to the local hospice, St Francis Hospice, and Women's Aid. The work of the group is organised by a Tidy Towns committee, which is voted on every year at an AGM. The committee meets monthly to review operations and plan for the next few months. The committee has 4 Officers, A Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and PR person. And a variety of Working Groups are responsible for carrying out projects. (Operations, Planting, the Tidy Towns Annual Competition Report, Heritage, Digital Marketing and Biodiversity are the some of our working groups - there are lots of opportunities for volunteers to be involved!). This year we also acquired a polytunnel and a shed. Thank you for taking time to read about our village.
