Tidy Towns Blanchardstown

Tidy Towns Blanchardstown Blanchardstown Tidy Towns was restarted by a group of volunteers in 2018. (A previous Tidy Towns committee existed in the village until the 2000s).

The Officers of the Committee elected in April 2024 are
Chair, Anne Sheridan
Secretary, Aidan Browne
PRO, Billy Linehan
Vice Chair, Mark Dillon

Blanchardstown is a linear village, bounded by the Royal Canal at it's southern end, the Tolka river to the east the "new" Garda station to the north, and Roselawn and other housing estates to the west. We meet at 10am every Saturday in the carpark of Cro

sscare on the Main Street. All are welcome as volunteers to assist with planting, weeding, litter picking and general maintenance of the village environs. From April we also meet every Wednesday at 7pm in the same venue. Other themes of our work include promoting biodiversity in our green spaces, promoting heritage and preserving the village as a conservation area (particularly around St Brigid's church and Church Avenue), active travel via our walks and trails, collaborating with local schools and community groups and generally improving the environment for residents, businesses and visitors. We are mostly funded by grants and donations. We apply funding for from Tidy Towns Ireland and Fingal Council, and look for donations from companies and members of the public. Working closely with Fingal Council, and this year. 2024, held a concert to celebrate St Brigid which was attended by over 200 people. Money raised was donated to the local hospice, St Francis Hospice, and Women's Aid. The work of the group is organised by a Tidy Towns committee, which is voted on every year at an AGM. The committee meets monthly to review operations and plan for the next few months. The committee has 4 Officers, A Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and PR person. And a variety of Working Groups are responsible for carrying out projects. (Operations, Planting, the Tidy Towns Annual Competition Report, Heritage, Digital Marketing and Biodiversity are the some of our working groups - there are lots of opportunities for volunteers to be involved!). This year we also acquired a polytunnel and a shed. Thank you for taking time to read about our village.

Community Spirit in Action! 🎨

Well done to the residents of Rushbrook who came together yesterday for a fantastic community tidy-up, litter pick, and oak tree preservation project. Initiatives like this show what can be achieved when neighbours work together to care for their local environment.

We're also delighted to highlight the progress being made on our community mural. A special thank you to our artists for the dedication, creativity, and countless hours they are investing in this project.

Together, projects like these help make our community cleaner, greener, brighter, and stronger.

Just five volunteers were out this morning working at Granard Bridge, but what a difference they made!

Today's focus was clearing overgrowth, removing weeds and built-up soil from the narrow pathways, and cutting back vegetation to make the area tidier, safer and more accessible for everyone who uses it.

The transformation achieved by such a small team is a testament to what can be accomplished when people give a little of their time for the community.

A sincere thank you to everyone who came along and helped today – your efforts are greatly appreciated. 👏

We'd love to see a few more faces joining us next week. Many hands really do make light work, and even an hour or two of your time can help make a visible difference in our community.

If you'd like to get involved, we meet every Saturday morning at 10am at Crosscare on Main Street, Blanchardstown. There's no obligation to attend every week – any help you can give is greatly appreciated.

A lovely morning to get out and tackle some much-needed work at the end of Mill Road 🌿

Today, our volunteers rolled up their sleeves to take on overgrown flower beds and cut back some very unruly bushes that had really taken over the area. It was a lot of hard work, but what a difference a few hours and a great team can make!

The space is now looking much tidier, brighter and far more cared for — a real improvement for everyone passing by. A huge thank you to all our fantastic volunteers who gave their time and energy this morning. We’re incredibly grateful for your continued support 💚

We’ll be back out again next Saturday as usual, meeting at Crosscare at 10am. If you can spare an hour or two, we’d love to see you there — many hands really do make light work!

Across Blanchardstown this morning:
🟡 Heavy rubbish cleared at end of Old River Road. 5 bags on one little stretch!
🟡 Footpaths and roadside cleared along the approach to Blanchardstown from the N3
🟡 Planting and prep work continuing behind the scenes 🌱

Different teams. Same goal.

This is what it actually takes to keep a village looking well — not one spot, not one job, but constant work across the whole area.

If you’ve noticed things looking sharper lately… this is why 👀

Want to get involved? We’re out every week 💚
Meet at Crosscare on Saturday at 10am.
